Episode 12 The Design Files: Lucy Feagins

House of Style

Show Notes

The House of Style is back for a second season! This season we're focusing on 'Women in Design'. These are the women that inspire us in the industry, from editors, to stylists, to homewares brands and even a bit of fashion thrown in the mix. We're starting this series with the incredible Lucy Feagins, editor and founder of The Design Files. This is Australia's favourite interiors blog and there's not question why. Lucy has been on the forefront of design since starting TDF in 2008, creating a platform that highlights new talent and celebrates all things to do with design in Australia. We talk all about those early days of TDF, from Lucy changing careers and taking a risk on a blog, to taking it where it is today and what's to come. If you're working hard on your side hustle, this is the episode for you. Thanks for joining us for another round of House of Style!

Thank you to Globewest for helping bring this series to you and for supporting Women in Design.

We've come to the end of another season of House of Style but we're going out in.. well, style! Stylist Steve Cordony sits down with us to chat about all the beautiful things he's been up to. You've no doubt followed his journey renovating the stunning Rosedale Farm in Orange but we take a step back and talk about his early days in magazines, what led to the farm project and of course, what's next on the cards. The renovation of Rosedale Farm was a huge undertaking and Steve explains his references, his design process and inspiration and how it all came together. We talk about the changing landscape of being a stylist and content creator and the ways to keep up with social media trends. We loved chatting with Steve, he's always such an inspiring figure in the industry and what a perfect way to wrap up the season.

This week we went on location to record at Alexander House where we interviewed Jeremy Bull, founder and director of award winning design studio Alexander and Co. We chatted with Jeremy about his journey in architecture and design and how it led to him creating his practice Alexander and Co. The ethos behind this firm is that 'exceptional design directly changes the world around us, creating greater connectivity, experience and sustainability', a message we explore with Jeremy and the lasting legacy he hopes to leave behind. This is a fantastic chat and chance to dive into the mind of an incredible creative, one of the best this country has to offer.

This week Kerrie-Ann and Jono revisit the world of interiors magazines, albeit from a slightly different angle. We're talking with editor Tanya Buchanan who overseas not one but TWO homes titles, Australian House & Garden and Belle magazine. We explore the path she took through the world of publishing, with a pit stop at RM Williams along the way, and how she made her way to run two of Australia's most successful homes titles. With the print media landscape constantly evolving, we analyse what is it about Australia's obsession with their homes and how it keeps this industry alive, and what is on the cards for the future.
