Divorces on TV, Unicorns, and Divorcing When You Have Just Moved: It's a Questions Episode!

Divorced and Done

Show Notes

Does your cousin support your podcast? Rob's does!

This episode kicks off with a personal question and then moves along with a question about a missing respondent where Rob reminds us that if you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not unicorns. What happens when you get a final order and it is time to collect? Rob tells us his experience.

Darren answers a question about how long you need to live in a province to file for divorce in that region. Darren and Rob tackle how to deal with flaring emotions when a relationship ends and where the 6 steps to divorce help to resolve these issues.

Canadian divorce law has operated under a no-fault system since the mid-1980s. This meant that the actions of one spouse during the marriage, including issues such as infidelity or abusive behavior, were not taken into account when dividing assets or determining spousal support. The May 2026 Ahluwalia decision from the Supreme Court of Canada may impact the no-fault system, marking a dramatic turning point for divorce law in Canada.
