Every Believer Is Anointed – Kath Turnbull

Catch The Fire Auckland

Show Notes

The first person the Bible says God filled with his Spirit was a builder, so the anointing belongs on the building site, in the boardroom and in the supermarket queue too.

In this message Kath shows from Scripture that the Holy Spirit lives in every believer, and rests on us for the people around us. She also gives one simple question for anyone unsure of their calling: "Who do you want me to love?"

It's a message for anyone running on talent and coffee until everything feels dry, anyone who has never felt spiritual enough to be used by God, and anyone who has started coasting and wants a fresh anointing. If you're wondering where your own anointing is, the people around you are a good place to start.

Who keeps coming to you for help, and what do they come to you for?

Of everything the disciples saw Jesus do, the one thing they asked him to teach them was how to pray. Kath walks through how Jesus answered them. Start by calling God Father, because we get to come to him as his kids. Ask for his kingdom to come into the places we live and work. Keep praying when life is hard. And know that Jesus is praying for us right now, so when we pray, we're joining in with what he's already praying.

You are born for fruit, but you do not have to strain, panic, or perform to reach your destiny. Only Father God is the Vinedresser. He knows exactly what he is doing with the shears. He cuts to bring life, and He never prunes a branch to destroy it. Your only real job is to drop the performance, remain connected to the Vine, and trust His loving hands.

What did the resurrection actually did to Satan's authority? When Jesus walked out of the tomb, he disarmed the enemy. It is like grabbing a poisonous snake and pulling the fangs out, or taking the batteries out of a remote control. The enemy is still around, and he is definitely still angry, but his actual ability to destroy you is gone. All he really has left to use against us is accusation, lies, and fear. The decisive battle is already won. The enemy knows his time is short, so he is just trying to take as many people down with him as he can before it is over. This message is a really practical reminder that we do not have to fight a war that is already over. We just need to stay close to the Lord, stay close to our community, and live like people who know exactly who has already won.

God is not planning to make all new things. He promised to make all things new. In this message, Andrea explores the heavy, beautiful challenge of our bodily resurrection. Our lives are just like a tiny acorn planted in the dirt. The seed and the towering oak tree are wildly different, but they are intrinsically linked. Because our present reality is tied directly to our eternal one, how we live today carries immense weight. Every act of healing, beauty, and love is an active piece of God's eternal restoration project. Listen as Andrea invites us to let Jesus mess with our priorities, showing us how to access the renewing power of the resurrection day by day.

We have been waiting two millennia for Jesus to return. Waiting that long has a profound effect on the human heart. It is incredibly easy to fall asleezp during a delayed arrival. Jesus knew this would happen. He prepared his followers for a long wait by telling them exactly what readiness looks like. Biblical readiness is a highly active state. Jesus illustrated this by describing ten bridesmaids invited to a wedding. As the bridegroom delayed, all ten grew tired and fell asleep. The vital difference was who brought enough oil for a long wait. Five bridesmaids planned for an immediate arrival, but the wise bridesmaids packed extra flasks to prepare for a delayed arrival. Jesus also told the story of servants entrusted with their master's wealth. The ones who actively invested the resources were celebrated upon his return. The servant who passively buried his talent out of fear faced a severe consequence. Readiness only ever happens before an event. We are invited into that exact same state of spiritual readiness. We step into this posture by faithfully doing today's assignment while watching for tomorrow's king.
