I Hate Music

Episode 99 - Summertime Travels, Concerts, Dungeon Synth, and a Curious Discovery

I Hate Music

Show Notes

We are back after an unintentional summer break! Sometimes life gets in the way, and we had a very busy summer so in this episode we share stories of our summer travels featuring places such as The U.K. for Fortress Fest, California for the Agalloch/Emperor shows, Serbia, Montana, as well as Brazil, Mexico and more. We discuss the shows we saw and performed, the food we enjoyed and did not enjoy, the beers we quaffed and possibly the world’s worst hotel. At the end of the episode we reveal a very curious discovery that leaves us pondering and perplexed. Do it up! @ihatemusicpodcast

Today we revisit Episode 70 from January 31st, 2024. This was part of a larger episode on Record Collecting, but what we are republishing is a semi-exhaustive piece featured on Episode 70 about Napalm Death's classic and divisive track, "You Suffer." We gathered clips and comments from friends and luminaries in the scene, each one offering their thoughts on the song, interspersed with live versions and covers of the infamous one second song. See below for the breakdown of who and what you are hearing in this piece, in order of appearance.

This is the first in a new series we are calling Podcast Takeover. We hand the reins over to listeners and let them do the work. For this one, long time listener and yes, one of the Kyles, does a deep dive into film sampling in music. Kyle holds our hands as he explains plunderphonics, makes Sebastian happy by playing Buckethead, and showcases a wide and deep knowledge of both music and film.

In 2014 Jason Walton did the unthinkable by attempting to cover Bjork’s gorgeous and heartbreaking masterpiece “Bachelorette” off of her stunning 1997 album “Homogenic.” In this episode we listen to the original, and Self Spiller’s version and discuss them both.
