On Halloween night in 2002, two people were beaten to death in their bed in one of the wealthiest districts of São Paulo. The scene was staged to look like a burglary that had gone wrong. It took police a little over a week to work out what they were really looking at and the thing that gave it away was a wardrobe. This is the full Richthofen case. Not just the murders, but the forensic details that unravelled it in the first week, the confessions taken in three separate rooms, the five-day trial that stopped the country, the thirteen-year fight over theinheritance and where all three of them are living today.Manfred von Richthofen · Marísia von Richthofen · Suzane von Richthofen ·Daniel Cravinhos · Cristian Cravinhos · São Paulo, Brazil, 31 October 2002
France, 1915. A country full of widows, and a man placing advertisements in the lonely hearts columns of the Paris papers. Hundreds of women wrote back. Henri Désiré Landru kept their names in a little notebook and worked through it charming, attentive, always talking about marriage. One by one he took them out to a villa in the countryside west of Paris. No body was ever found. Not one. So when the case finally came to court, the prosecution had to prove murder with no victim to show the jury. What they had instead was paperwork: a notebook, some household accounts, and the record of the train tickets he bought. This episode is about the women whose names were in that book, how he chose them, and how a man who left nothing behind was caught by his own bookkeeping. Content warning: describes the disappearance and murder of eleven people. Full documentary version on YouTube

For eighteen years, Jean-Claude Romand told everyone he was a doctor and researcher at the World Health Organization. He wasn't. He had no job and no medical degree and when the lie finally began to collapse, he murdered his entire family. This documentary unravels one of the most disturbing true crime cases in modern French history. Jean-Claude Romand built an entire life on a single lie: a prestigious medical career, a comfortable home, and the complete trust of his wife, his children, his parents and his friends. In reality, he had never qualified as a doctor. He spent his days sitting alone in car parks and motorway lay-bys, driving to nowhere, funding his double life by defrauding the very people who loved him most. In January 1993, as the fraud closed in on him, Romand killed his wife Florence, their two young children, and his parents, before attempting to take his own life. He survived and stood trial for the murders that ended a deception nearly two decades in the making. How does a man sustain a lie for eighteen years? How does an ordinary, respected family man become capable of annihilating everyone closest to him? We trace the full story: the first small deception in medical school, the years of quiet fraud, the unravelling, the investigation, the trial, and the unsettling questions this case still raises today. In this documentary: The full timeline of Jean-Claude Romand's eighteen-year deception. How he faked a career at the WHO and fooled everyone around him. The financial fraud that funded his invented life .The events of January 1993 and the collapse of the lie. The investigation, the trial, and the aftermath. What the case reveals about deception, denial and the human capacity for self-delusion.
