Ep. 31 | When Yes Is Costing You: Growing Your No and Protecting Your Yes

Wild Hope Rising: A Podcast for Women on Faith, Healing & Purpose

Show Notes

In this week’s Hope Huddle, we talk about a struggle so many women quietly carry: saying yes out of pressure, obligation, or people-pleasing and slowly losing themselves in the process. When every yes is driven by expectation instead of discernment, the cost shows up as exhaustion, resentment, burnout, and disconnection from what actually matters. We explore why saying yes so often feels easier than saying no, and how busyness can become both a badge of honor and a form of avoidance. For many women, being needed, being productive, or being the strong one has quietly become part of their identity. But just because you can say yes does not mean you should. In this episode, we talk about• Why people-pleasing, performance, and fear drive so many of our yeses• The hidden cost of overcommitment on our physical, emotional, spiritual, and relational health• How to recognize when your yes is no longer aligned with your values or God’s invitation• What it actually looks like to grow your no and protect your yes without guilt• Why boundaries are not about withdrawal, but about honesty and stewardship We return to this anchor truth throughout the conversation: Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. Learning to grow your no is not about becoming unavailable. It is about becoming intentional, discerning, and faithful with what has actually been entrusted to you. This episode is for the woman who feels stretched thin, overwhelmed, or quietly resentful of commitments she once agreed to with good intentions. It is an invitation to stop living from pressure and start living from wisdom. Ep. 49 | Ann White on Courage, Fear, and Coming Out of Hiding Sometimes hiding doesn’t look like hiding at all. We can keep showing up, caring for others, and doing what needs to be done while protecting the places in us we’re afraid to let anyone see. In this Hope Huddle, we sit down with Ann White, author, speaker, Bible teacher, and founder of Courage For Life, a global ministry focused on biblical courage, healing, and discipleship, including bringing biblical resources to incarcerated women and men. Ann knows this journey firsthand. Her own experience of hiding, recognizing that something needed to change, and allowing God to lead her toward healing became the foundation for Courage For Life and the seven steps of courage she now shares with others. In this conversation, we explore:

Ep. 48 | When God Allures Us into the Wilderness What if the wilderness isn’t only a place we find ourselves, but sometimes a place God lovingly draws us into? In this solo episode, Sunny takes us into the book of Hosea and a tender picture of God alluring His people into the wilderness to speak tenderly to them. Sometimes we run to things that never satisfy. We blame. We measure God’s goodness by the circumstances around us. But the wilderness can become the very place where the noise quiets and we encounter the heart of the One who loves us most. In this episode, we talk about:

What happens when grief, loss, or sheer weariness collide with the faith you’ve always known? In this Hope Huddle, we sit down with Becky McCoy, writer, retreat leader, spiritual director, and author of In the Company of the Weary: Ten Gentle Spiritual Practices for Your Tired Soul. After devastating loss rocked her world, followed by depression, anxiety, and chronic illness, Becky entered a wilderness that began to undo the rigid, rational faith she had known. In that wilderness, she began discovering a more experiential knowing of God and a gentler way of approaching Scripture and spiritual practices. In this conversation, we explore:

Anger can be uncomfortable—especially for Christian women who may have learned to suppress it, fear it, or even believe that feeling angry is wrong. But what if anger isn’t the enemy? What if it’s actually trying to tell us something? In this Hope Huddle, we sit down with Karrie Garcia, speaker, licensed life coach, author, and founder of Freedom Movement, for an honest conversation about anger, shame, triggers, and healing. In this conversation, we explore:

Pull up a chair on the porch, pour yourself a glass of lemonade, and hang out with Tammy and Sunny for another Wild Hope Summer Porch Conversation. Today, we're looking back at the women we were at 20—and this conversation got surprisingly emotional. What would you tell your 20-year-old self if you could sit across from her today? Would you correct her? Warn her? Celebrate her? Or maybe finally offer her the kindness and grace you couldn't give her then? We're talking honestly about the choices we made, the things we didn't know, the growth we can finally see, and the ways God was present in our stories long before we understood what He was doing. Because sometimes growth isn't about becoming an entirely different person. Sometimes it's about looking back and realizing that pieces of who God created you to be were there all along. In this episode, we talk about:
