Does Antimatter Yield Anti-Gravity?

PBS Space Time

Summary

Marketers are increasingly concerned about the effectiveness of their ad campaigns, often finding that while metrics like impressions may look good on paper, they do not translate into actual revenue. This phenomenon, referred to as "bullspend," highlights the need for a more strategic approach to advertising that prioritizes tangible results over superficial metrics. LinkedIn is noted for delivering the highest return on ad spend among major ad networks, prompting a call for marketers to reassess their spending strategies.

In a significant scientific inquiry, physicists at CERN have conducted experiments to determine whether antimatter experiences gravitational attraction or repulsion. Antimatter, which has opposite quantum properties to regular matter, raises questions about the nature of mass and gravity. The experiments aim to explore the distinction between inertial mass, which resists acceleration, and gravitational mass, which determines gravitational interactions.

The initial findings from the Alpha-G experiment suggest that antihydrogen atoms fall downwards, similar to regular hydrogen, but there is tentative evidence that they may experience a slightly weaker gravitational force. This could imply a violation of CPT symmetry, a fundamental principle in physics, and may provide insights into why the universe contains significantly more matter than antimatter. Further research is needed to confirm these results and their implications for our understanding of gravity and the universe.

From hoverboards to flying cars to cloud cities, anti-gravity is a staple of science fiction and our dream of a less Earth-bound future. But in the real universe gravity appears to be a purely attractive force. Feels like its main MO is keeping us stuck to the surface of this lonely rock. But maybe if we science hard enough we can remove the fiction from science fiction. For the sake of our flying cars we should at least try. And for many years, physicists have wondered whether a certain well-known exotic material may experience gravitational repulsion from the Earth. That material is antimatter, and physicists at CERN have just completed a very long and very difficult experiment to answer a seemingly simple question: does antimatter fall down, or does it fall up?

From the perspective of quantum field theory, every point in space is represented by a quantum oscillator; one for each elementary particle type. Higher energy oscillations represent the presence of real particles. However even the lowest possible energy oscillation – the one corresponding to the absence of particles – has some energy. He picked up the phone and called Richard Feynman. The fateful conversation began, “Feynman, I know why all electrons have the same charge and the same mass." "Why?" asked Wheeler’s former graduate student. "Because, they are all the same electron!" Wheeler went on to describe the One-Electron Universe idea: that there exists only one electron, and that electron traverses time in both directions. It bounces in time, eventually traversing the entire past and future history of the universe in both directions, and interacting with itself countless times on each pass. In this way it fills the universe with the appearance of countless electrons. And when the electron is moving backwards in time it is a positron; the antimatter counterpart of the electron.Written and Hosted by Matt O’Dowd Produced by Rusty WardGraphics by Kurt RossAssistant Editing and Sound Design by Mike PetrowMade by Kornhaber Brown (www.kornhaberbrown.com)Comments answer by Matt:0xFFF1https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgdNBQCdhdA&lc=z23sjnwjrwnljxe3macdp435v2eqfl1uknp1kknjllxw03c010c Daniel Grasshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgdNBQCdhdA&lc=z230gbubioqjyn1vfacdp43azemsjdresxvjbu412tdw03c010c M Paulsonhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgdNBQCdhdA&lc=z221xpzafrikhxyjf04t1aokgiuxpnkzxeknjelcsx0jbk0h00410 Special thanks to our Patreon Big Bang, Quasar and Hypernova Supporters: Big BangCoolAsCatsDavid NicklasQuasarTambe BarsbayMax LevineMayank M.
