Beyond Gender

Show Notes

Stella, Mia, and Bret recap the major events of 2025: Trump’s executive orders and the HHS report, the For Women Scotland Supreme Court ruling, the UK PATHWAYS puberty blockers trial, the McMaster systematic reviews, and Alberta’s use of the notwithstanding clause. Mia gives the Canadian perspective, where things have gone the other way. They also discuss the gap between Britain’s legal wins and what’s actually happening clinically, and why Genspect was raising the alarm about PATHWAYS back in late 2024. They reflect on their interviews with Gordon Guyatt and Ken Zucker, Susan Bradley’s willingness to say “we were wrong,” and what Mia calls the upstream problem: the belief that being trans is innate and healthy. They finish with predictions for 2026 and whether another social contagion involving bodily harm could follow.

Mia Hughes is joined by Scott Newgent, who experienced homophobia - from her relationship dynamic, to a trans identified therapist and finally a gynecologist who - without testing - told her she was likely intersex. This made Scott feel out of place and led to her undergoing sex altering procedures, which brought severe medical complications. Scott is raising awareness and advocates to stop gender-affirming care, particularly for minors, which is cosmetic, not life-saving or evidence-based, and often leads to the health deterioration that Scott experienced. Scott will be speaking in UK parliament on October 21st to stop the UK’s ‘conversion therapy’ ban, which is vague, could criminalize real help, and is a trojan horse to shut down opposition to gender ideology.
