Fitness Unfiltered Episode 63: Performance Nutrition & Regulating Nutrition Qualifications In The UK with Dr. Laurent Bannock
Fitness UnfilteredShow Notes
This week team FU were delighted to be joined by the Director of The Institute Of Performance Nutrition (www.theiopn.com) and host of the ‘We Do Science’ Podcast, Dr. Laurent Bannock.
Laurent shares with us the distinct differences between sports nutrition, performance nutrition and translatable nutrition information that’s most relevant for the general population. We have a candid conversation around the minutiae many focus on (and whether they need to at all), scope of practice and evidence-based practitioners.
We also discuss the current educational structure of courses relating to nutrition in the UK and the proposition that has been put forward the AfN (Association for Nutrition) to become a regulatory body. What does this mean for those currently giving out nutritional recommendations and with change anything at all?

It's that weird time between Christmas and New Year when nobody knows what day it is, and everyone on the internet is arguing about whether to exercise and what to eat. We're going in... Social Media, Diet, Training, how to recognise good coaches through the mirages of social media and how to demonstrate that you might be a good coach on social media.
In this episode we explore the concept of how important it is for personal trainers to be in shape, amongst a few tangents.
On this episode we have Helen West as our guest. You may know Helen as half of Rooted Project, and co-author of Is Butter A Carb. She also works as a specialised dietitian in the field of adolescent eating disorders, and has a great understanding of the social and political caveats we must be aware of when talking about the topic.
