SPARS is a fictional coronavirus outbreak scenario published by the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security (2017) that imagines a novel respiratory coronavirus emerging in 2025 and spreading worldwide over 2025–2028. The scenario focuses less on virology and more on the communication and medical countermeasure (MCM) dilemmas that arise while an existing drug is repurposed for treatment and a novel vaccine is developed, tested, authorized, produced, and distributed amid public mistrust, social fragmentation, and active misinformation.
