Tyra Perry's case becomes the focal point of "Action Oriented Advocacy," shedding light on her life, the circumstances surrounding her disappearance, and the subsequent murder investigation. The narrative reveals contradictory statements, potential suspects, and the passage of time that has left the case unsolved for 35 years. Despite challenges and limited media coverage, the group tells the importance of not forgetting victims like Tyra Perry and others impacted by violence in Albuquerque. The story then describes advocacy groups' efforts, like the New Mexico Crusaders for Justice, and their collaboration in organizing a "honk and wave" event to draw attention to victims of violence and demand justice and change. The event's success in bringing together over 60 people, including family members of other victims, underscores the commitment of these advocates to seek resolution and raise awareness about the impact of violence on their communities.

More from True Consequences - True Crime
Three true crime creators walk into a conversation about advocacy, burnout, ethics, and community. Josh Hallmark (True Crime Bullshit, Unsafe Spaces) is joined by Eric Carter Landin (True Consequences, AdvocacyCon, Angels’ Voices Silenced No More) and Patrick Hinds (True Crime Obsessed) for a raw, funny, and grounded roundtable on what it takes to make true crime responsibly, how listener relationships can get complicated fast, and why trauma informed spaces for families matter.
I sit down with my mom to discuss Jacob's case and where we go from here.
In this episode, Eric shares updates in his brother’s case, including a heated meeting with the prosecutor.
Dione Begay was born on March 28th, 1975. She was the eldest of six children and is described by her sister Christine as having a positive perspective on life and a witty sense of humor which is missed by her loved ones. Dione was beautiful, vibrant, outgoing, intelligent, and family-orientated. She was a mother of four daughters and had unique, close relationships with her entire family. Dione had several tribal connections via her parents, Debbie and Laffie Begay. Dione’s mother Debbie is part of the Dakotas ‘Yankton’ and ‘Arikara’ tribe, and her father, the ‘Navajo’ and ‘Dine’ tribe. As a Native American woman, Dione Begay is one of many Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women in New Mexico who is yet to receive justice, despite the brutality inflicted upon her and the obvious circumstances of the crime.
