Clean Beauty Isn’t Always Clean, and Your Skincare Routine Is Probably Too Complicated | EP238
Wellness Junkies | Beauty & Wellness Tips, Hacks, Recs & Reviews for Women 40+Show Notes
“Clean” on the front of a jar can mean almost anything. There is no standardized regulatory definition of “clean” for cosmetics, so clean skincare can still carry synthetic fragrance, dyes, and parabens under a pretty label. If you have ever stood in a store unsure which claims to trust, start here.
Amy Sherman sits down with Karen Behnke on Wellness Junkies. Karen founded Juice Beauty in 2005, served as a founding member of Ulta’s Conscious Beauty board, and was recognized by Elle, Forbes, and Cosmopolitan for helping build the clean beauty movement. Her fourth company, Beauty Crush Skincare, grows its grapes on her organic vineyard in Sonoma.
Karen shares the free tool she uses to check skincare ingredients and the “made without” claim that still misleads her close friends. She explains what regenerative skincare means for your skin barrier and why her own skin stopped tolerating harsh exfoliants in her 50s and 60s. You will also learn what separates real clinical testing from a simple “tested” label and how to spot a third-party seller on Amazon before you buy.
Tired of 10-step beauty routines? Karen breaks down the three steps she believes most women need and the one product category she can’t live without. Press play for clean skincare and skincare tips you can use the next time you shop, plus Karen’s beauty tips for getting out the door in five minutes.

If you're 40+, bone health probably feels like a problem for later. Then a DEXA scan at 50 comes back with osteopenia and osteoporosis, even after years of heavy lifting and HRT. That is exactly what happened to Amy Sherman, and it sent her looking for answers.
If you open a closet and feel your shoulders tighten, there is a reason. Studies link clutter and cortisol, the body's main stress hormone. That means the pile on the kitchen counter may be adding to the weight you carry every day. Decluttering your home is one of the few wellness levers fully in your control, and it can start smaller than you think. One drawer and a timer might be enough.
You have the title, the team, and the income. So why does it still feel like something is in the way? Brett Chinn says the answer usually lives in a belief you picked up years ago, and astrology can help you find it.
Wellness tips are everywhere right now, and most of them contradict each other. Amy Sherman sits down with Sean Hoess, founder and CEO of Eudēmonia Summit, for a conversation about what is actually worth trying and what is just noise.
Some products live up to the hype. Most don't. This episode sorts out which is which.
