RunPod

Show Notes

Ultra-marathon runner Rob Pope, better known as "the real-life Forrest Gump" is back with more tales of incredible feats of human endurance... and even a near death experience. In this episode, Rob talks about his latest challenge: a 569-mile, 14-day coast-to-coast run across Britain for Nestlé's Taste Trail, which raised over 175,000 meals for The Felix Project. The man who ran Forrest Gump's famous USA journey, 5 times over - now tells us how running across the UK compares! KitKat factories, perils of Scottish roads, rural beauty and more. He also tells Jenni about running 2,000km across Australia alongside AC/DC's tour dates — where he met the band, who turned out to be huge supporters of his challenge, and had a terrifyingly close call with one of the world's deadliest snakes along the way. Expect blisters, near-death wildlife encounters and a run-in with rock royalty... all in a day's work for Rob.

Dr Naomi Potter is a GP, author, mum of five and one of the most trusted voices on menopause, as well as a keen runner. For Menopause Awareness Month, Jenni sits down with Naomi, who both ran the Royal Parks Half Marathon just the other weekend. They talk about what running and fitness can do for you during perimenopause and menopause, and why movement matters whatever your starting point. Naomi explains why perimenopause is often the hardest stage, how symptoms like fatigue, joint pain and weight gain can affect your running, and why rest is just as important as exercise. She also tackles the biggest myths around menopause and HRT, and whether HRT could make exercise feel easier. Olympic medallist. Triathlon legend. One half of arguably the most iconic siblings in the sport. We're joined by Jonny Brownlee, just a matter of days after he's hung up his boots for good! Over a career that spanned more than a decade, Jonny won Olympic bronze at London 2012 and Olympic silver at Rio 2016, and he was part of Great Britain's gold-medal mixed relay team at Tokyo 2020. He's a multiple World Series podium finisher who stood beside his brother Alistair at the top of the sport for years. And of course, we have to talk about that moment. At the 2016 World Series Grand Final in Cozumel, Mexico, Jonny hit the wall in the closing stages, and Alistair stopped to haul him towards the finish line. It became one of the most replayed images in endurance sport. But what is retirement looking like for someone who has achieved so much? and how does fatherhood come into it?
