CANADALAND

First Nations, First Ministers, Second Chance?

CANADALAND

Show Notes

In 2005, Canada’s leaders agreed to a $5.1-billion plan to close the gap for Indigenous people. Three days later, the government fell, and the deal died with it. This week, they finally sat down again.

Sam spends the day before with Jeff Copenace, chief of Onigaming First Nation. Twenty years ago, he was sitting right behind Paul Martin at Kelowna. This time, he couldn’t get in the room.

Plus: meet our new managing editor, Harrison Lowman, and his pick for the craziest political story of the decade. In May, Caroline Elliott was the front-runner to lead the B.C. Conservatives. She lost by two points, would she have beat Eby?
