Show Notes
On this episode of The Cine-Files, hosts Steve Morris and John Rocha go back to 1956 to breakdown and analyze one of the greatest Westerns ever made and possibly the greatest Western ever made, 1956's The Searchers. Directed by John Ford and starring John Wayne, Natalie Wood, Jeffrey Hunter, Harry Carey Jr., Vera Miles, Pippa Scott, Lana Wood, and Ward Bond. The film ia directed by John Ford and written by Frank S. Nugent, based on the 1954 novel by Alan Le May. It is set during the Texas–Indian wars and stars John Wayne as a middle-aged Civil War veteran who, accompanied by his adopted, partially Native American nephew (Hunter), spends years looking for his abducted niece (Natalie Wood). Steve and John recorded an episode on this film during the first season of the show that was just over an hour long. They felt this movie deserved more than that and they begin their deep dive into it on this episode!

More from The Cine-Files
On this episode of The Cine-Files, hosts Steve Morris and John Rocha walk back into the world of the MCU to begind their breakdown of CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR with special guest and Geek Buddy, Shannon McClung. One of the most revered films from the early phases of the MCU and one that certainly led MCU films to take sides as a member of Team Cap or Team Iron Man. The third installment in the Captain America franchise, it is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo from a screenplay by the writing team of Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. It stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Don Cheadle, Jeremy Renner, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Emily VanCamp, Marisa Tomei, Tom Holland, Frank Grillo, Martin Freeman, William Hurt, and Daniel Brühl. The film focuses on a disagreement over international oversight of the Avengers that fractures the team into two opposing factions—one led by Steve Rogers and the other by Tony Stark. The film grossed over $1.1 billion worldwide and became the highest-grossing film of 2016. Steve, John and Shannon go thru the back half of the movie scene by scene and break down why this horror lite comedy still holds up all these years later!
On this new episode of The Cine-Files One Takes, hosts Steve Morris and John Rocha and special guest Scott Mantz dive in to discuss Help!, the 1965 British musical comedy-adventure film from director Richard Lester. It stars all four Beatles (John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr) along with Leo McKern, Eleanor Bron, Victor Spinetti, John Bluthal, Roy Kinnear and Patrick Cargill. The film sees the three other Beatles struggle to protect Ringo Starr from a sinister eastern cult and a pair of mad scientists, all of whom are obsessed with obtaining a sacrificial ring sent to him by a fan. Though not as well regarded as 1964’s A Hard Day’s Night because of its silliness and wacky comedy, it does feature some damn good Beatles songs and was a precursor for a lot of the comedy we would later see from Monty Python and the Batman series with Adam West and Burt Ward. John, Steve and Scott look back on the film and discuss their feelings on it all these years later, when they saw it as kids, and what charm (or lack thereof) the film still has for them.
On this episode of The Cine-Files, hosts Steve Morris and John Rocha finish off their trip back to 1988 in their celebration of the Spooky Season with Part 2 of their breakdown of BEETLEJUICE from director Tim Burton and starring Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Catherine O'Hara, Geena Davis, Jeffrey Jones and Alec Baldwin. The plot revolves around Adam and Barbara Maitland (Baldwin and Davis), a recently deceased couple. As ghosts, they are not allowed to leave their house. They contact Betelgeuse (Keaton), a sleazy "bio-exorcist", to scare the house's new inhabitants away. The film prominently features music from Harry Belafonte's albums Calypso and Jump Up Calypso as well. A Halloween classic film that raised the profile of Michael Keaton one year before he played 'Batman', introduced Winona Ryder to the general public and made Tim Burton a household name. Steve and John go thru the back half of the movie scene by scene and break down why this horror lite comedy still holds up all these years later!
