Jaren Johnston on Sobriety, The Guest Room Recordings & Steven Tyler’s $10,000 Surprise

God's Country

Show Notes

Jaren Johnston joins Dan and Reid Isbell on God’s Country for stories from his life as the frontman of The Cadillac Three and the songwriter behind hits including “Raise ’Em Up,” “Beachin’” and “Meanwhile Back at Mama’s.”

Jaren tells the wild story of Steven Tyler handing him a mystery paper bag with $10,000 inside, recalls jumping offstage during a show in Canada, and shares what happened when an artist insulted The Cadillac Three without realizing who was sitting across from him.

He also opens up about two years without drinking, relearning how to navigate music and touring, and wanting to be present for his wife and son. Plus, Jaren talks about why artists need to build a live audience—not just a social following—and plays “Raise ’Em Up” with the brothers.
