Show Notes
Today on Greta Wire:
- Newly obtained documents reveal that Birmingham FBI agents record Van der Sloot accepting $25,000 during a 2010 extortion sting but enter the operation with no planned arrest.
- Van der Sloot leaves Aruba with the money and murders 21-year-old Stephanie Flores in Peru two weeks later.
- Former U.S. Attorney Jay Town says investigators fail to bring the necessary criminal complaint, allowing a straightforward wire-fraud and extortion case to collapse.
- The FBI and U.S. Attorney’s Office allegedly conceal the operation’s failures from the Holloway family while refusing to accept responsibility for losing Van der Sloot.
- Years of pressure ultimately activate a U.S.-Peru treaty and bring Van der Sloot to the United States, but the podcast teases another shocking prosecutorial decision still to be exposed.
