HAMSTRUNG: Max Mata's off-season ordeal & SEASON TWO PREMIERE! | EP24 - The Unused Subs

The Unused Subs

Show Notes

That’s right, it’s the SEASON TWO PREMIERE of The Unused Subs! Somehow, some way, the boys are back… and they’ve convinced former Auckland FC striker MAX MATA to join the fun at the Tyler St Sport studio.

Max has endured a less than desirable off-season; a niggling hamstring injury led to a departure from Shrewsbury Town, and left him without a club. How does the free agent plot a path to the FIFA WORLD CUP in 2026?

Max relives and reveals the pain and frustration of not being involved in last season’s A-League semi-final defeat to Melbourne Victory, but also recounts some of his best moments during the Black Knights’ inaugural campaign.

Goran debuts a new segment - FOUR X’s WITH COLLINSON - in association with our great mates at Collinson Forex. It's essentially an excuse to talk about the best players you've ever shared a pitch with! We rave about kiwi footballers making headlines for all the right reasons as we check out our Kiwi Radar.

There’s also plenty of love for Brian Kaltak, and yep… we are still wondering if THAT cross at Mt Smart Stadium was IN or OUT in AFC’s final match of last season. And it wouldn't be an episode of your favourite kiwi football show if there wasn't an unwelcome interruption from a loud delivery truck, or a giant cruise ship, right?!

It’s good to be back for Season Two! Tell your teammates and get on the bench with The Unused Subs today!

England has been defeated by Argentina in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Semifinals. And of course, the finger of blame is pointing directly at England's manager Thomas Tuchel. Were his defensive tactics in the final half hour of the clash 'cowardly' as has been reported in the UK media since the 2-1 loss?
