His team, known for their resilience against bribery and threats, successfully disrupts Capone's operations, although they face challenges in securing convictions due to the unpopularity of Prohibition. Ultimately, it is the Special Intelligence Unit that successfully prosecutes Capone for tax evasion, leading to his imprisonment.
After Prohibition ends, Ness transitions to a role as Cleveland's Safety Director, where he implements modern policing techniques and community outreach programs. However, his tenure is marred by the inability to catch the infamous "Mad Butcher of Kingsbury Run," which tarnishes his reputation. Despite later struggles in his personal and professional life, Ness's legacy is revived posthumously through the publication of his memoir, "The Untouchables," solidifying his place in American criminal history. He passes away in 1957, just before the book's release, leaving behind a complex legacy of crime fighting and reform.
