Show Notes

[extreme Jim Downey voice]: "𝘋𝘢𝘷𝘰 𝘚𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘥𝘶𝘯? 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘳𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘢𝘯 𝘧𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘳?” This week on ANDORKS, we’re delighted to be joined by television critic Sean T. Collins as we finally wrap up Andor's season 1, episode 9, “Nobody’s Listening”! Together we explore the upper echelon of the galaxy, from banking and tax-dodging on Chandrilla to the intelligentsia of the ISB leadership on Coruscant. And nobody’s impacted more than their shared malice than Cassian Andor and the prisoners stuck on Narkina 5. There we’re forced to say farewell to a very crotchety friend – and see the final push that leads Kino Loy to rebellion. Other discussion topics include Anton Lesser, the shared Venn diagram of actors shared between Andor and Game of Thrones (and Harry Potter and Doctor Who), failed palindromes, space Rupert Murdoch, crash out dances, Phil Ochs, what the hell happened with The Rise of Skywalker, if the bifurcation of the light side and the dark side of the force is a fascist belief, and more! 👋 Follow Sean at @seantcollins.com on Bluesky, find all of his work at seantcollins.com and join his Patreon here! 🧭 Speaking of Patreons, you can subscribe to our BRAND NEW Patreon at patreon.com/andorkspod where you can listen to our full bonus DETOUR episodes, get early access to every episode of Andorks, and more fun features! Mysie my! We’ve made it all the way to ANDOR Episode 11 “Daughter of Ferrix.” Who’d have think we’d make this far, haye? To help us kick off the penultimate episode of season one, we're joined by our friend, writer and filmmaker Dave Schilling! We discuss B2EMO finding his sleepover buddy, hating AI but loving droids, the parallels between Ferrix and Minneapolis, why the Canto Bight arc rules, the sexual allure of horror, narc fashion, and most importantly, get to meet Dewi and Freedi Pamular. It's a great episode, so listen now. Or else we'll trap you in our gooey nets. 🕸️ 👋 Follow Dave on Instagram at @dwschilling and on X at @dave_schilling 👻 Check out Dave's book "Horror's New Wave: 15 Years of Blumhouse" 🍿 Watch the trailer for Dave's new short film "Can't Float", coming out soon! 🧭 Want more Andor and/or Andorks? Watching ANDOR leads to a lot of logistic questions about the Star Wars universe, like: how does the Empire produce all these weapons? What is the parliamentary procedure for the Galactic Senate? Why did the New Republic fall apart? What if somebody wrote a version of William L. Shirer "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" but about Palpatine? Finally, we've found those answers in "Star Wars: The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire" by historian Dr. Chris Kempshall. The canon(!) in-universe history book explains exactly (and in EXTREME depth) what is happening behind in the background between the Clone Wars and somehow Palpatine returning. Folks, there is MUCH to talk about. That's why we're excited to welcome back two Star Wars superfans, Dan Salgarolo and Mike Van Gorder, to explore the book's revelations and lore ramifications. Strap in. 🧭 Want to hear THE FULL EPISODE? Get out your flashlights, because we’re going to a sunless place. And we hear it's full of... g-g-g-ghosts?!? It's time to witness Luthen Rael’s seething monologue to Lonni Jung down in the dregs of Coruscant. And to help us break the scene and speech down, we're honored to be joined by actor, writer, and video essayist, Maggie Mae Fish! Together we say goodbye to Episode 10, discuss growing up amongst Republicans, discover there's a Hutt version of Truman Capote in Star Wars canon, draw parallels between Luthen and Darth Vader, debate whether there are Edible Arrangements in space, deliberate Shakespeare influences, and of course, provide LOTS of Stellan Skarsgård talk. 📺 Watch Maggie's video essay "Investigating "All Her Hault" Horror" on her YouTube channel at @MaggieMaeFish 👋 Follow Maggie on on Instagram at @maggie.mae.fish, on Bluesky at @maggiemaefish.bsky.social, and on X at @MaggieMaeFish 🧭 Want more Andor and/or Andorks? We all know the story. A random bunch of misfits came together to steal the plans for the Death Star and started a rebellion. That said: they died. So we decided to ask, what combo of Star Wars weirdos could've gotten the job done and lived to tell the tale and grab a drink at Niamos? There was only one way to find out. WELCOME TO THE FIRST GLUP SHITTO DRAFT. For a special bonus episode this week, we're excited to welcome both Joey Clift and Julie Fiveash, the author and illustrator of the soon-to-be-released book "We've Been Here the Whole Time! A Not So Sacred Guide to All Things Native America", to help fill out their brackets and build their teams of beloved little Star Wars dudes. All we need YOU to do is listen and tell us who you think put together the best team of Glup Shittos. You can vote for your winner over on our Patreon page at https://patreon.com/andorks! 📖 Pre-order your copy of "We've Been Here the Whole Time!" right now! Before you forget! Don't wait until October 6th! (Did we mention Darth Vader is in it?) 👋 Follow Joey on Instagram at @joeycliiiiiift and Julie on Instagram at @jooliefiveash! 🧭 Do you want to hear this ENTIRE episode as we complete the draft?
