The Sooners went into Baton Rouge expected to give LSU everything they wanted after a big win over Alabama last week. But as has happened with other road SEC contests, the Sooners let a productive first half give way to mistakes in the second half. That offense that looked so capable against Alabama disappeared. Jackson Arnold's legs kept things going for a while. But when the Sooners fell behind after a kickoff return for a touchdown and two long TD passes, OU's offensive line turned back into swiss cheese. Arnold couldn't find open receivers or didn't have time to scan the field for open receivers. The running game wasn't what we had seen building over the last month. And all of a sudden, the defense was giving up huge TD passes to a hobbled Garrett Nussmeier. But in the end, it was the end of a poor regular season. The bowl game will probably look like a mash unit after the transfer portal and players sitting out are known. But all eyes turn to OU's next offensive coordinator. The decision is expected to be known in the next few days. The gang talks about what they know on the process and what names they are hearing floating around. Come for the on the field football anger, stay for the more calm talk of the future and what is next for Brent Venables as he tries to right the ship and fix this OU football program. More from Oklahoma Sooners Postgame
Well, it was fun while it lasted. Oklahoma is back to its old self...from three weeks ago. In all honesty, the offense looked promising for 3 quarters. The loss of a fully healthy Ryan Fodje wasn't a shot the Sooners were built to take. John Mateer made the same mistakes we saw before Texas, and now we wonder: what does OU do next? Is it time to look toward the future? Is this the most disappointing start to a season in recent memory? I mean, Eddie and George get INTO IT in this one. Frustrations are high for everyone, but the season isn't over yet. What moves do the Sooners make in hopes of saving what's left of this season? All that and more on this edition of the Eskridge Lexus Postgame Podcast.
The Oklahoma Sooners did the unthinkable. They went into the Cotton Bowl and played a turnover free game, found some room to run and let the defense and special teams score touchdowns. Meanwhile the Sooners were much better this year containing Arch Manning, although he did hit a few big passes on the OU secondary that was missing starting corner Eli Bowen. And the Lou Groza version of Tate Sandell showed up to hit the game winner from 47 yards out as time expired. We recap all the good things in this edition of the Eskridge Lexus Postgame Podcast. And what does this mean for the rest of the season? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
John Mateer was the biggest reason the Sooners fell behind and lost any chance of competing with Georgia Saturday in Athens. Carey, Eddie and George all weigh in on not just how the team played, but what should happen next. Why didn't the Sooners move away from Mateer and try something else? Is there any good that came out of Mateer's performance outside of the turnovers. And why would that even matter? Oklahoma lost 41-13 at the hands of Georgia. The offense, bad. The defense, held it's own at times. Play calling, not the worst we've seen. The turnovers, wow! The bye week is here, Red River is up next and honestly, Carey is the only one showing even the slightest glimpse of hope? Eddie and George on the other hand...well just watch and you'll see. All that and more on this edition of the Eskridge Lexus Postgame Podcast.
Let's preface this by pointing out that the Sooners did win. However, getting booed by your own fanbase is concerning. The defense was great, but once again the offense was just awful. From the indecisiveness in the run game to constant mistakes, the unit isn't good enough to play, let alone in the SEC. The road doesn't get any easier from here as a road game at Georgia and the Red River Rivalry await. Do the guys see any hope? Is there a light at the end of the tunnel for Ben Arbuckle's offense? Find out on this edition of the Eskridge Lexus Postgame Podcast.
Controversy from last week didn't matter, Oklahoma walked in to Ann Arbor and just got whooped. From terribly quarterback play, a struggling offensive line, and a run game that just isn't working; this was a rough one. Do I really need to tell you that though? I mean that's why you are here. Anyway, welcome to this edition of the Eskridge Lexus Postgame Podcast.
