Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is often seen as a modern invention—but its core ideas were explored over 1,100 years ago by the 9th-century scholar Abu Zayd al-Balkhi.In this video, we explore al-Balkhi’s groundbreaking writings on mental health, anxiety, depression, emotional regulation, and the connection between thoughts and behavior—ideas that closely resemble modern psychology and CBT.Music by:Filip Holm (me)Find me and my music here:https://linktr.ee/filipholmSupport Let's Talk Religion on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/letstalkreligion Or through a one-time donation: https://paypal.me/talkreligiondonateAlso check out the Let's Talk Religion Podcast: https://open.spotify.com/show/0ih4sqtWv0wRIhS6HFgerb?si=95b07d83d0254bSources/Recommended Reading:Badri, Malik (translated by) (2024). What is Ibadism? Often called the third branch of Islam, Ibadism developed in the early Islamic period and today is most prominently associated with Oman. This video examines Ibadi theology, history, and its differences from Sunni and Shia Islam, offering a clear and academically grounded introduction to one of Islam’s most overlooked traditions.Music by:Filip HolmAli SabahFind me and my music here:https://linktr.ee/filipholmSupport Let's Talk Religion on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/letstalkreligion Or through a one-time donation: https://paypal.me/talkreligiondonateAlso check out the Let's Talk Religion Podcast: https://open.spotify.com/show/0ih4sqtWv0wRIhS6HFgerb?si=95b07d83d0254bSources/Recommended Reading:Albusaidi, Saleh Ahmed (2012). This is the first part in a new series I'm trying out where I will present religious texts (or parts of texts) that are interesting or noteworthy. This one features the "Great hymn to the Aten", an ancient religious text in devotion to the god "Aten" that was allegedly written by Pharaoh Akhenaten during the tumultuous era known as the "Amarna period" when the old pantheon of gods was seemingly temporarily replaced with a single, universal God of the sun (or more, precisely - light). It is for this reason that Atenism is sometimes considered the first monotheistic religion in the world, which would make this hymn one of the first religious expression of monotheism ever.It also just happen to be very beautiful, aside from being historically significant. What do you think of it? Let's discuss in the comments.Translation used: https://www.ucl.ac.uk/museums-static/digitalegypt/amarna/belief.htmlVideo used: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFSjLNlZITg Learn more about your ad choices.
