73: How Do Our Spoken Words Shape Our Reality?

Tarot’s Hanged Man can tell a story not only of waiting for wisdom, but of public humiliation and persecution—including a history that Julie Peters connects to the modern fear of being judged for witchcraft. On The Bell Witch Podcast, Julie Peters and host Swailes explore that “witch wound,” how tarot can work alongside trauma-informed counselling, and the surprising rebel stories hidden in the cards. Julie reads the Devil as a potential liberator, links the Minor Arcana to the tale of Tristan and Isolde, and explains why the Moon is her favourite card: its stream of tears recalls the goddess Isis grieving Osiris and the flooding of the Nile. Julie Peters is a counselling therapist, Tarot reader, and writer living in Edmonton, Alberta, also known as Beaver Hill House in Treaty 6 territory. She is the author of several books including The Full Moon Yearbook; Maiden, Warrior, Mother, Crone; Witch, Healer, Priestess, Outcast; and the forthcoming Secret Tales of the Tarot.
