Show Notes
An invisible force plunged a knife into Esther Cox’s back not once, but twice. And somehow, that was only one of the terrifying incidents surrounding the Great Amherst Mystery, a bizarre 1878 poltergeist case involving flying objects, unexplained fires, spirit communication, and an unseen entity seemingly determined to torment Esther.
We’re diving into one of the most heavily documented hauntings in history, including the skeptics and witnesses who saw the strange activity firsthand. But what exactly was following Esther, and why did the haunting refuse to leave her alone?

What happens when a spooky game is more than just a game and the thing lurking in the corner isn’t just your imagination? In this Encounters episode, we’re getting up close and personal with the darker side of the paranormal in this Encounters episode, where demons, possessions, poltergeists, and mysterious entities make some seriously unsettling appearances.
After eleven-year-old Eleonore Zugun picked up a coin she was warned belonged to the Devil, strange things began happening around her. Stones flew through windows, objects moved on their own, and scratches, bite marks, and even needles mysteriously appeared on her body. Eleonore named the entity tormenting her Dracu, the devil, and the activity followed her from Romania to Vienna and eventually London.
Witches aren’t always hiding in the woods with a bubbling cauldron. Sometimes they’re family, neighbors, strangers, or someone you trust. This week, we’re exploring the darker side of witchcraft, from love spells and inherited supernatural abilities and mysterious curses to hexed homes and encounters with entities from folklore.
We’re getting seriously spooky with all things possessions: exorcisms, rites and rituals, unexplained strength, mysterious voices, demonic entities, and a whole lot of horror from around the world. We’re breaking down the signs and stages and exploring how different cultures understand possessions.
This spooky season, we’re going back to our haunted house roots. We’re talking homes with demonic residents, supernatural mold, door banging spirits, a call to Lorraine Warren and a locked crawlspace that probably should have stayed locked.
