Show Notes

This week, Da7e and Neil move from Westeros to the Monsterverse as Apple TV's Monarch: Legacy of Monsters returns for its second season. In The Calm [06:24], they recap the story so far and piece together where the events of season one (and season two's premiere) fit on the larger timeline of Legendary's Titan-filled story world. They also discuss Kong Skull Island and how Kong and his neighborhood have evolved since the 2017 film. Then in The Storm [59:32], they look ahead to episode two and beyond, attempting to predict what will be this season's big technological MacGuffin. They also discuss a few wild theories about where this series may ultimately end. And finally, in a very special new segment called The Godzilla Project [01:16:20], Da7e leads Neil through Session Zero of a new "Kids on Bikes"-inspired roleplaying experience. Over the next 10 weeks, Neil will create his own Godzilla movie project and be at the mercy of Da7e's dungeon master expertise and numerous dice rolls to see if he can deliver a successful entry in the Monsterverse franchise. Next week, Monarch season two continues with episode two, "Resonance," on Friday. Which means there will be a new pod in your feeds on Saturday with more Calm, more Storm, and Session One of The Godzilla Project where Neil will make his initial movie pitch! This week, Da7e and Neil close out their coverage of season 1 of Lanterns!

Sep 29, 2026

This week, Da7e and Neil construct their thoughts on the penultimate episode of season one of HBO's Lanterns! In The Calm [05:22], they unpack the fact that the show has pivoted from Bad Dads to Sad Dads, theorize about why the show chose to play the fight song for a specific college, and begin their advocacy for the inevitable Kelly MacDonald Emmy campaign. Then in The Storm [43:42], it's time for predictions for what will happen in the finale, what (if any) ambitions the show has beyond a single season, and more. Next week, Lanterns concludes its first season on Sunday night and the pod will be back on Monday to break it all down. Then after a few weeks off, Storm of Spoilers is headed back to Middle Earth for a rewatch of the first two seasons and coverage of the new season of The Rings of Power. This week, Da7e and Neil follow the story of Lanterns back into the events of 2026 where there's a murder to solve, a gym teacher to confront, and more mysteries ahead... In The Calm [04:08], they discuss the oddities at play in the fate of Hal Jordan. They also consider how John's new job and the show's insistence on mentioning Noah play into the potential endgame. Then in The Storm [01:01:22], your faithful hosts unleash their new theories for the end of season one, the greater impact on the DCU movies, and what it could mean for future seasons. Next week, it's the penultimate episode of season one of Lanterns and it looks like there will be plenty of flashbacks. Classic Damon Lindelof. This week, Da7e and Neil are caught in the darkness cloud of an episode that feels like a season finale, even though they know that Lanterns must carry on for three-ish more hours. In The Calm [05:36], they discuss the Very True Detective Thing of doing a midseason action finale. And they say goodbye (probably) to several of their multi-color Lantern theories. Then in The Storm [48:30], your faithful hosts construct several new theories for what's in store in the final three episodes, at least one of which espouses radical ideology about Manhunter healthcare. Next week, Lanterns continues with an episode that blips back to the 2026 timeline and promises to bring another familiar face into the fray. This week, Da7e and Neil are having a very mature conversation about an episode of Lanterns called "The Weenie." In The Calm [04:30], they revisit the conversation about John's parents as he evades being honest with them. They also dive into how John omitting information in his relationships has become a recurring theme. And they weigh in on the episode's multiple fake-out story and what it could mean going forward. Then in The Storm [52:30], they learn to not sleep on a hyper-specific member of the greater universe of Lanterns as they ponder how many colors of the spectrum this show is interested in. Next week, Lanterns drops episode 5 on Sunday night. And the pod returns to break it all down on Monday.
