The AFLW season heads into its final round with significant developments and a competitive landscape as teams vie for playoff positions. The league has seen a rise in scoring and attendance, attributed to recent rule changes that promote a more free-flowing style of play. Notably, the Gold Coast Suns have emerged as a surprise contender, potentially securing a top-four spot after a challenging previous season, thanks in part to the leadership of Erin Phillips and the development of academy prospects.

As the final matches approach, several teams are in contention for the playoffs, including Geelong, who are on a winning streak, and the Western Bulldogs, who are looking to solidify their finals position. The upcoming games will be crucial, with teams like Brisbane and Carlton also seeking to improve their standings. The stakes are high, as the outcomes will determine playoff matchups and the final rankings, adding excitement to the league's conclusion.

In the backdrop, two clubs, Essendon and Collingwood, face off in a match devoid of finals implications but significant for pride and potential draft positioning. Both teams are searching for new coaches and hope to end their seasons on a positive note, showcasing their talent for future prospects. The final round promises to be a thrilling conclusion to the AFLW season, with implications that will resonate into the next year.
