We're kicking off our annual Horror Movie Month, and tackling our oldest movie yet, with the iconic 1922 not-quite-Dracula story NOSFERATU! This masterwork of German expressionism established an iconic take on the vampire mythos, but does this weatherbeaten silent film still hold up for modern audiences? We'll dig into it as well as explore two very different games: a 1995 SNES adventure, and a 2003 first-person shooter. Hosted by Steve Guntli, Jennifer "JBan" Bannister, and Justin Wilhelm Logo by Douglas McCambridge Email: [email protected] Instagram/Threads: @cinemarcade_podcast YouTube: @CinemArcade Next week's episode: Killer Klowns From Outer Space

After the success of his audacious 1992 hit BRAM STOKER'S DRACULA, Francis Ford Coppola decided to produce a follow up that would be a similarly lavish, and more accurate, interpretation of a classic horror tale. The result is MARY SHELLEY'S FRANKENSTEIN, an ornate and operatic new version of the famous tale directed by and starring Kenneth Branagh, with Robert DeNiro as the monster. Legendary story? Two of the world's finest actors? What could go wrong? Turns out a quite a bit; we'll get into the film's tortured production and it's legacy, and then address another shambling monster: the SNES game adaptation! Step right up for the goofy carnage of 1988 cult film KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE! Featuring enough inventive practical effects and circus-based humor to make up for a general lack of story, this slow-growing favorite has become a Halloween staple, and has inspired a brand-new asymmetric multiplayer horror game from the makers of FRIDAY THE 13th! Strap on your stilsuits and get ready to travel to the desert world of Arakis as we cover the various adaptations of DUNE! We're focusing mostly on Denis Villeneuve's sprawling 2021 epic, which finally seemed to crack how to adapt Frank Herbert's seminal sci-fi novel, after multiple failed attempts. Then, we're talking about a landmark early RTS game based on the franchise, and the recent release DUNE: AWAKENING, which just hit consoles this week! The classic whodunit genre gets a new shot of life with Rian Johnson's giddy 2019 treat KNIVES OUT! This star-studded mystery introduces a character for the ages with Daniel Craig's southern sleuth Benoit Blanc, and the film revels in deconstructing the tropes of the genre to create something that feels fresh. We're digging into the making of this new classic before checking out the surprise game adaptation, a multiplayer social deduction party game exclusive to... Netflix? Smmmmokin! This week's episode is all about the wacky SFX comedy THE MASK, starring Jim Carrey! This goofy little comic book flick has stayed surprisingly fresh since 1994, and helped further the careers of two of our biggest movie stars, Carrey and Cameron Diaz. We're joined this week by Robert Ottone, a two-time Bram Stoker Award-winning horror writer, who drops by to share the love for both the film and the surprisingly great SNES game adaptation!
