2023 Year-End Review

Every Friday we pack our unanswered questions into the canoe and paddle across the lake to see if our friend, The Village Tarot Witch can help us get to the bottom of this! Black Eyed Kids are a legend of paranormal creatures that resemble children between the ages of six and sixteen. These creatures with pale skin and black eyes have reportedly been seen hitchhiking, panhandling, or at the doorsteps of residential homes. That’s just the beginning of the terror. Join us as we discuss one of the most horrifying legends to emerge in the last century. Are they ghosts? Alien hybrids? Vampires? Demons? Maybe they’re all these things. Maybe they’re none of these things! One thing we know. Campfire: Tales of the Strange and Unsettling is created for adult audiences only. The content and discussion in this show will necessarily engage with various accounts that include violence, anxiety, fear, and occasional body horror. Much of it will be emotionally and intellectually challenging to engage with. We will flag especially graphic or intense content so as to never put you in an uninformed or unprepared position. We will do our best to make this a space where we can engage bravely, empathetically, and thoughtfully with difficult content every week.

This week, we return to one of the most terrifying homes in the US; purportedly the Bellaire House in Ohio. Residents, guests, and neighbors have made allegations of paranormal phenomena such as apparitions, curses, psychic assaults, and ghoulish brutality almost since it was built in 1847. This week, we’re diving in with both feet into one of the most notorious hauntings in the history of Ohio. Campfire: Tales of the Strange and Unsettling is created for adult audiences only. Every Friday we pack our unanswered questions into the canoe and paddle across the lake to see if our friend, The Village Tarot Witch can help us get to the bottom of this! This week, we return to the truly tragic death of Cindy James. After seven long years of supposed stalking, a series of brutal assaults, and near-constant harassing phone calls, she was found dead behind an abandoned house in Richmond, British Columbia. Unfortunately, the torment that she was enduring was systematically ignored by the police. It is a truly fascinating case study on the effect of established mental health conditions on the investigative process. How was the truly harrowing series of events that punctuated the final years of her life related, if at all, to her terrible end?
