House Tarth and the Sapphire Isle
History of Westeros - A Song of Ice and Fire | Game of Thrones | HOTD | AKOTSKShow Notes
Tarth, nicknamed the Sapphire Isle, is a beautiful island in Shipbreaker Bay, and has long been a part of the Stormlands. Eons ago they had their own kings with both First Man and Andal ancestry, but the rulers of Tarth have always been dubbed “the Evenstar”, and have resided in Evenfall Hall while maintaining strength at sea. Island folk are always at least a little different from mainlanders and they are no exception. This is the house of Brienne after all, but the story of House Tarth includes another historical exception as well - Ser Duncan the Tall, not to mention a blood connection to House Targaryen. Fire and blood consumes Greece as hopes of unity fade and the price of freedom rises. Arcadia tries to go it alone against all wisdom as Epaminondas heads north to free the imprisoned Pelopidas. His captor, the tyrant Alexander of Pherae brutally breaks the system to pay sellsword salaries, and his unlikely ally, the democratic Athens, shrugs at the slaughter. Several city-states deploy delegations in a race to win Artaxerxes’ favor - his massive wealth is still a game changer, but the Great Satraps Revolt of Nectanebo and Datames grows, threatening to undermine his influence. Only 4 days after the UK we journeyed west on another adventure - this time to Anaheim, California for WorldCon where we were nominated for a Hugo Award! We attended the awards show and also hung out with GRRM, David J Peterson, John Picacio, the BwB, and more. Then we went home for DragonCon where Ash led a group of Egg cosplayers while Aziz was Maekar… and we have pics! The full story of the pivotal Tournament of Harrenhal using the Mad King stage play as our guide. It’s an incredible collection of characters featuring Rhaegar, Lyanna, Howland, Elia, Ashara, Robert, Ned, Jaime and of course Aerys and quite a few more. We'll go through each scene while pointing out what’s new, what’s from ASOIAF - and there’s quite a lot of both! If you’re not able to attend the play this is the next best thing! We bring you considerations and criticisms of House of the Dragon based on the source material. How do some of the earliest changes look now? Do some adaptation choices make more (or less) sense in retrospect? Which characters have been changed the most and the least? Includes season 4 theories and a book to show s1 and s2 recap! Our spoiler-free review of the red carpet premiere of the The Mad King play at the Royal Shakespeare company! We also attended GRRM’s afterparty and learned much about the past and future of the production. We will have at least two more episodes on The Mad King play, and these will be full spoilers.
