FootballTalk - Episode 220: Leeds United's what if, Boro and Hull on the rise and Huddersfield take an upturn
Football Talk - The Yorkshire PostShow Notes
On this week’s show, The YP’s Stuart Rayner and Leon Wobschall join host Mark Singleton to sift through the latest action on and off the pitch involving Yorkshire’s leading clubs. They start in the Premier League and Leeds United’s 1-1 draw at Everton on Monday night which, while keeping them clear of the bottom three, could have been more having taken the lead at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Next up is the Yorkshire derby between Huddersfield Town and Bradford City – the derby at the ACCU Stadium marking the first game in charge for new boss Liam Manning, brought in by owner Kevin Nagle to replace Lee Grant. Huddersfield backed up the 1-0 win over the Bantams with another one-goal victory – also on home turf – against another promotion rival in Luton Town. Bradford, by contrast, suffered a third straight defeat – the first time in almost two years – when they went down 3-0 at Lincoln City. Middlesbrough have put a recent poor run behind them by posting four straight wins, helping them ramp up the pressure on Championship leaders, Coventry City, fuelling hope of a top-two finish, while Hull City have also hit form to solidify a play-off spot – but could it be more?
And does Sheffield United’s return to winning ways – with a 3-1 victory at home over Ipswich Town – mean they still have a chance of becoming a play-off contender despite such a dreadful start to the season. Finally, Stuart picks out his top-performing Yorkshire Team of the Week, while Leon selects his standout player from the last few days.
More from Football Talk - The Yorkshire Post
On this week’s show, The YP’s football writers Leon Wobschall and Stuart Rayner join host Mark Singleton to discuss the latest news from the Yorkshire football scene. They start by assessing Bradford City’s progress under new manager Michael Duff and how they are evolving since Graham Alexander’s departure, paying particular attention to the recent games against Stevenage and Burton Albion. League One rivals Sheffield Wednesday found their scoring touch again at home – hammering Wimbledon 5-0 – enabling them to remain part of the top six picture in League One, but howe can they ensure they are scoring goals on a more regular basis? But it is Huddersfield Town who are currently the top Yorkshire team in League One, wins at Plymouth and at home to Peterborough in the past week ensuring they sit second in the table. Can their form be sustained under Martin Drury? Problems continue to mount, however, for Rotherham United and new boss Alex Bruce in League Two – a 2-2 draw against Newport leaving them hovering just above the bottom two. What can be done to revive their season? In the Premier League, Leeds United had to settle for a point from their Elland Road clash against fierce rivals Manchester United, but while their was frustration for the Whites, the panel highlight how they can potentially benefit from the European adventures of their top-flight rivals. And, finally, Leon pores over his choice for the Yorkshire Player of the Week, while Stuart picks out his standout Team of the Week.
After the end of the extended international break, The Yorkshire Post’s football writers, Leon Wobschall and Stuart Rayner, join host Mark Singleton to cast their eye over the return to action of Yorkshire’s Premier League and EFL clubs.
On this week’s show, host Mark Singleton is joined by The YP’s Stuart Rayner and Leon Wobschall to pore over the latest news from the Yorkshire football scene. They start off at Valley parade following Tuesday’s announcement that former Barnsley and Huddersfield Town manager Michael Duff would succeed Graham Alexander as the boss at Bradford City. They then turn their attention to Yorkshire and League One rivals Huddersfield Town who, under Martin Drury have made an encouraging start to the 2026-27 campaign and sit third in the standings – just a point off a top two containing leaders Plymouth and the Bantams – following the weekend’s 3-1 win over Burton Albion. Finally, the panel consider whether the extended international break has been a success – both for national teams and the clubs affected by not playing as a result of players being away on international duty.
On this week’s show The Yorkshire Post’s football writing team of Stuart Rayner and Leon Wobschall start off by joining host Mark Singleton to discuss the extended international break and England’s performances against Spain – in defeat – and the Czech Republic – in victory. They then turn their attentions closer to home and, not surprisingly, start at Valley Parade after Graham Alexander’s departure from League One Bradford City to Preston North End in the Championship – along with assistant Chris Lucketti. They also look at the leading candidates to take over the Bantams’ helm. The panel finish off by turning their attention to League Two and the start to the 2026-27 season made by Rotherham United and York City.
On this week’s show, Stuart Rayner and Tom Coates join host Mark Singleton to discuss the latest news and developments from the Yorkshire football scene. We start this week with the clash between Hull City and Newcastle which ended in a 2-1 defeat and ended the Tigers’ unbeaten start to the season. While frustrating for manager Sergej Jakirovic and his players, there are still a wealth of positives to be had for the club going into the elongated international break. Leeds United will also be going into the three-week break on the back of a strong 2026-27 campaign so far, extending their unbeaten start with a 0-0 draw at home to Crystal Palace. The panel discuss how the three-week hiatus can benefit both Leeds and Hull with various players away on international duty and how each manager can best use the time they have ahead of a return to action in mid-October. We also carry out a review how Sheffield United and Middlesbrough – our two Yorkshire teams in the Championship – will view their respective starts to the campaign. League One is more congested in terms of Yorkshire clubs – Barnsley, Bradford City, Doncaster Rovers, Huddersfield Town and Sheffield Wednesday – and we also cast an eye over how those teams have fared in the opening weeks. Finally, Tom is handed the task of picking his Player of the Week before Stuart plumps for his Yorkshire Team of the Week.
