This episode explores how the people, environments, and influences we surround ourselves with quietly shape who we become. From friendships and habits to mindset, energy, and everyday choices, it’s a powerful reminder that growth isn’t just about what we strive for — it’s about what we allow around us. A reflective conversation on awareness, alignment, and choosing consciously so we can live with more intention, fulfilment, and self-respect. // SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH ME: ▶︎ Join me on Instagram to let me know what your 'things you can't un-hear' moment was from this episode https://www.instagram.com/maritza_barone/ https://www.instagram.com/thingsyoucantunhear/ *If you love this show don't forget to subscribe and leave a 5 star review and subscribe! Today’s guest is one of those people that leaves an impact on you for a long time after leaving his presence. Bart Walsh joins me to share his experiences that shaped the man who is here with us today. At 23, Bart discovered a rapidly growing lump beneath his jaw, which was eventually diagnosed as a rare and aggressive sarcoma. His doctors told him the cancer needed to be removed urgently. They initially believed they would need to remove his jaw, part of his throat, his lower teeth and potentially his voice box, which was particularly devastating because Bart was an actor and his voice was central to his career and identity. Just days before surgery, his surgeon found another approach that could preserve his voice, although it meant a more complicated operation involving parts of his throat and tongue. The surgery ultimately removed his jaw, which was reconstructed using bone from his leg and tissue from his thigh, along with numerous teeth and other affected tissue. He then underwent six weeks of radiation therapy. Bart has described the recovery as incredibly difficult, both physically and psychologically, and says the cancer fundamentally changed his relationship with his body and his identity. And this is only part of his story. Bart has developed a powerful perspective on adversity, resilience and what we’re truly capable of. Today he shared so many moments I cannot stop thinking about. We shared tears, we shared laughter and we shared hope, and the fact that the things that almost break us ultimately make us who we are. From the young boy who always had a yearning to take the stage, Bart shares his hardest life lessons into tools to help US live better. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month around the world, and I wanted to use my voice to bring this conversation to the surface. Because this year, breast cancer has become very personal for me. Since the start of this year, two incredibly close people in my life have been diagnosed with breast cancer. And as I started speaking more openly about what they were going through, something else happened that I wasn't expecting. Other women started sharing their stories with me. Women I knew who had been through breast cancer themselves, or had watched their mum, sister, daughter or friend go through it. And I realised just how many stories are sitting quietly around us. Breast cancer is not some distant disease that happens to other people. It is affecting an extraordinary number of families, and the statistics really bring that home. Today I want to re-share an important interview I had earlier this year with leading breast cancer surgeon, Dr Jasmina Kevric, who is working with women every single day, and at the forefront of this disease. Breast cancer affect 1 in 7 women in Australia with about 56-58 women being diagnosed every single day. And about 1 in 8 women in the US. In Australia, around 56 people are diagnosed with breast cancer every single day. That's more than 20,000 people a year. And while those numbers are confronting, there is another statistic that gives us hope. Five-year survival for breast cancer in Australia has improved dramatically over the past few decades. It has risen from around 75% in the late 1980s and early 1990s to more than 92% today. That is an incredible reflection of what research, medical advancements and better treatment can achieve. // Check out my new wellness marketplace, curated just for you! What if there’s something inside you that you’ve been wanting to share, create, say or put into the world, but you’re still waiting for someone to give you the green light? For so much of my career, having a voice meant having someone else decide whether you were given a platform. Today, the barriers are very different. You don’t need millions of people listening to make an impact. You might simply want your children to hear your stories one day, inspire a handful of people, or reach an audience you’ve never imagined. The question is, what are you still holding back from sharing? Check out my new wellness marketplace, curated just for you! SHOP THE BRANDS I LOVE: Shop our tried & tested health and wellness brands.
