Will an aftermarket part actually increase the fuel economy of your 3.0 Duramax? How can you get better MPG without wasting money on modifications that may never pay for themselves? In Episode 32, I break down what I’ve learned from testing different parts and modifications on the 3.0L Duramax diesel. We’ll talk about air intakes, air filters, fuel additives, the Edge EZX, PPE charge air cooler, tires, wheels, driving habits, maintenance, and what I believe actually makes a difference when you're trying to improve fuel economy. The 3.0 Duramax is already an incredibly efficient diesel engine, but with diesel prices climbing, every MPG counts. The important question is whether spending hundreds of dollars on a modification actually saves enough fuel to justify the cost.I also cover a few updates before getting into our main MPG discussion, including the LM2 vs. LZ0 pistons, what I found after cutting open my 10L80 transmission filter, oil supply concerns, fuel filters, and some new products.Filters: https://www.demonworkshop.com/collections/oil-and-filtersKlickWrench Socket: https://link.amazon/B0f5hIl4yAs an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.⏱️ CHAPTERS00:00 – Can You Get Better MPG From a 3.0 Duramax?01:00 – Channel & Shop Updates03:25 – Fuel Filters & Cold Weather Maintenance04:35 – Metal Found in My 10L80 Transmission Filter05:15 – Oil Supply & Rising Maintenance Costs06:20 – LM2 vs. LZ0 Duramax Pistons08:15 – How to Get Better 3.0 Duramax Fuel Economy09:30 – Do Air Intakes & Filters Improve MPG?11:20 – Edge EZX & Fuel Economy12:05 – PPE Charge Air Cooler: Does It Improve MPG?12:55 – Do Diesel Fuel Additives Improve MPG?14:20 – Tires, Wheels & Lift Kits Can Hurt MPG16:15 – Driving Habits That Improve Fuel Economy17:20 – Maintenance & Fluids Matter18:05 – Should You Buy Mods Just for Better MPG?19:10 – Final ThoughtsWhat kind of fuel economy are you getting from your 3.0 Duramax? GM has revealed several updates coming to the 2027 3.0 Duramax, including changes to the pistons, turbo vanes, next-generation NOx sensor, sealing, fuel injector corrosion protection, DEF system, and more. We’re breaking down what we know, what these changes could mean for reliability, and whether the 2027 SUVs will eventually receive the same updated LZ0.We also have details on the larger 34-gallon fuel tank, which could give the 3.0 Duramax more than 900 miles of highway driving range. The DEF tank is getting bigger too, along with revised DEF level indicators. But that’s not all we’re covering in this episode. We get into the controversy over GM removing the traditional engine oil dipstick from its new V8s — and why I actually think getting rid of the dipstick could be a GOOD thing. We also talk about the upcoming MegaMax diesel, compare different transmission filters available for these trucks, run the numbers on diesel vs. gas fuel costs, and answer a viewer question about whether he should keep repairing his 2024 LZ0 or switch to an LM2.As a GM technician and 3.0 Duramax enthusiast, my goal is to cut through the noise and give you useful information based on what we actually know — and when something isn't confirmed yet, I'll tell you that too.🔥 Save with Banks Power using discount code DemonWorks:https://www.bankspower.com/demonworks🔧 Duramax Parts & Productshttps://www.demonworkshop.com📰 Duramax News, Maintenance Info & Part Numbershttps://www.duramaxnews.com🚨 COMING SOONhttps://www.3maxdiesel.comhttps://www.megamaxdiesel.comTopics covered in this episode:• 2027 3.0 Duramax LZ0 updates• Is this the Gen 2 LZ0?• LZ0 piston changes• Turbo vane updates• Next-generation NOx sensors• Fuel injector corrosion protection• 34-gallon 2027 Silverado fuel tank• Larger DEF tank and new DEF indicators• 2027 Silverado 1500 ZR2• GM removing the engine oil dipstick• MegaMax diesel news• Duramax transmission filters• Diesel vs. gasoline fuel costs• LM2 vs. LZ0 reliability• Used 3.0 Duramax problemsIf you own a 3.0 Duramax, are considering buying one, or want to stay up to date on the latest Duramax news, subscribe and follow along.
