IT’S been a staple of the Bathurst 1000 preliminaries since 1978, with the Shootout celebrating its 50th running ahead of the 2026 Great Race.
Over the decades, there have been plenty of heroics, legendary drives from the Mountain masters, and numerous fails by some of the sport’s biggest names.
During this time, the format has changed on multiple occasions, with drama and excitement never far away.
