Legally Brunette Presents: ‘Til Death Do Us Part - The Husband Who Fled To Italy

True Crime Reality

Summary

Lee Gilly, a Houston man, faces capital murder charges in the deaths of his wife, Krista Bauer Gilly, and their unborn child. Krista was found unresponsive in their home in October 2024, leading to an investigation that revealed signs of trauma. Prosecutors allege that Lee had been unfaithful and expressed dissatisfaction with his marriage prior to Krista's death. After initially calling 911 to report her death, he later claimed it was a suicide, despite admitting that Krista had no history of suicidal behavior.

In a dramatic turn, Lee managed to escape from the U.S. while out on a million-dollar bond, cutting off his ankle monitor and fleeing to Italy. He traveled through Canada on a private jet, using forged documents. Upon arrival in Milan, he sought asylum, claiming he fled to avoid being killed due to media scrutiny and the potential for a death penalty in Texas. The Italian court has since blocked extradition requests from the U.S., seeking assurances that he would not face capital punishment if returned.

As the legal battle unfolds, Krista's parents have filed a wrongful death suit against Lee, seeking over a million dollars in damages. Meanwhile, their two children, currently living with Krista's family in South Carolina, face a court order to return to Texas, raising concerns about their well-being. Lee Gilly remains in Italy as his asylum claim is pending, and the case continues to draw public interest.

Ohio officials say it took them more than two hours to find the person who called 9-1-1, then hung up, around 4 am on Wednesday morning. Dispatchers called back several times, and finally got a one word response: “help.” But by the time police tracked down the location of the phone, they were too late, discovering the bodies of grandparents 67-year-old Gale Sanders and 51-year-old Melissa Campbell along with their grandson, 22-month-old Kozzar Lotut. They had all been shot dead, and police believe it was at the hands of one of the grandparents. This latest tragedy comes in a year that has seen a dramatic uptick in familicides, and a recent string of headlines involving accused elderly murderers.
