The Halloween Conspiracy: Is There a Hidden History Behind October 31?

Conspiracy Theories Project

Show Notes

Halloween is often described as an ancient Celtic festival of the dead, repackaged by Christian authorities as All Saints Day and All Souls Day. In its strongest form, the theory argues that the Church deliberately placed its November observances over Samhain, suppressing an older pagan New Year marked by spirits, bonfires, disguises, and even Druidic sacrifice.

The surviving record is more complicated. Julius Caesar wrote that Druids in Roman Gaul used human sacrifice, but he did not mention Samhain or October thirty-first. Pope Gregory the First gave missionaries in England real instructions to adapt some non-Christian sacred places and feasts, but his letter does not mention Ireland, Samhain, or the Christian calendar in November. Medieval Irish literature does establish Samhain as an important seasonal boundary, associated with assemblies, divination, and encounters with otherworldly forces.

The investigation follows a later paper trail: John O'Donovan’s nineteenth-century reading of an old Irish glossary, Whitley Stokes’s competing translation, John Rhys’s argument for a Celtic New Year, and James George Frazer’s influential vision of a feast of the dead. It then follows historian Ronald Hutton’s twenty twenty-four reassessment of the sources beneath that familiar story.

Was Halloween designed to erase an older religion? Or did a complicated history of seasonal custom, Christian observance, folklore, scholarship, and repetition gradually harden into a single origin myth?

It claims that twelve American military personnel departed from the Nevada Test Site in 1965, traveled with extraterrestrials to a world called Serpo in the Zeta Reticuli system, and returned years later. Some versions say eight came back, while others say members died or chose to remain behind.

A modern online theory claims Earth is a prison for human souls. In this account, unseen beings feed on emotional energy, death presents a deceptive tunnel of light, memory is erased, and consciousness is sent back into another life. Its supporters often point to near-death experiences, Robert Monroe’s writings on “loosh,” ancient Gnostic texts about archons, reports of past-life memories, hypnosis, and remote-viewing claims.
