QUESTIONS OF FAITH - Sr Amata and Sr Catherine OP - Deepening our understanding of who Jesus is
Radio Maria UKShow Notes
Today’s listeners put their questions to Sr Amata and Sr Catherine of the Dominican Sisters of St Joseph, Lymington. Alessio asks why God had just one Son. Josephine wants to understand the scripture that describes Jesus “emptying himself” to become a servant. And Cindy asks what people mean when they say, “Jesus is the Word of God.” Drawing on scripture, the Catechism of the Catholic Church and their own experiences, the Sisters offer thoughtful, accessible answers to help deepen our understanding of who Jesus is. QUESTIONS OF FAITH is a programme in which listeners call in and ask our guests a theological, biblical or pastoral question - anything related to the faith, in other words. We usually have a priest, religious brother or sister or lay evangelist on and the programme airs live on Fridays at 11:15am. Please consider supporting us with a one-off or monthly donation. It is only through the generosity of our listeners that we are able to be a Christian voice by your side. https://radiomaria.uk/donations/

George Mackay Brown was extremely rare in being an Orcadian who became a Catholic, and for many he is one of the most important Catholic poets and writers of the twentieth century. He rarely left his native islands and, in the words of Seamus Heaney, "transforms everything by passing it through the eye of the needle of Orkney". Sent to interview him for The Times in 1992, Maggie Fergusson became Brown's friend, and he gave her his blessing to write his biography. George Mackay Brown: The Life, published twenty years ago, has never since been out of print, and won four prizes. Brown remains central to Maggie's thinking and faith. In this episode, Fr. Joseph Hamilton shares the text and theological framework of his recent paper delivered at the international Mariology conference, “de Maria numquam satis” in Rome. Addressing recent media interest, Fr. Hamilton clarifies the true scope of his research. Far from being a critique of Artificial Intelligence or modern technology, the paper is a constructive exercise in ressourcement_—putting patristic thought at the service of contemporary theology in direct alignment with the vision of Pope Leo XIV. Tracing the doctrinal continuity from Pius XII’s Munificentissimus Deus to the pastoral horizons of Magnifica Humanitas, this episode explores the Dormition and Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary through ancient Eastern and apocryphal sources. Rather than an anti-tech argument, Fr. Hamilton offers a profound reflection on Christian incarnational anthropology. In a digital age, Mary’s bodily assumption stands as a beautiful affirmation of the permanent dignity, sanctity, and vocation of the physical human body. Fr Joseph Hamilton is the Rector of the Domus Australia in Rome, and a priest of the Archdiocese of Sydney Australia. He is Professor of Latin & Patristics at the Pontifical Beda College, Rome. Prior to his appointment at Domus, he served as private secretary to George Cardinal Pell, until the Cardinal’s untimely death. Fr Joseph completed his doctoral studies in Patristics at Christ Church, University of Oxford, and his license at the Patristic Institute “Augustinianum” in Rome. Prior to entering seminary he worked as an investment banker. Having left the economy of Mammon for that of Salvation, he studied at the Pontifical North American College. A native of Ireland, he is a keen but mediocre (his words) surfer, and enjoys reading and cooking. CREDO (currently hosting Patristic Pillars) is a programme that nourishes listeners in their Catholic faith.
