Episode 69 - The Party Line on the Youth Revolt in France

This ep is all about France. The eiffel tower, haute couture, smoking, and youth rebellions. Ok, mostly the last one. For the main portion of the show, Anneke speaks to a student from France who has been centrally involved in the protests and blockades of schools and universities for the past few weeks. She asks what the movement looks like, what it’s about, and what they’re fighting for. An inspiring discussion in a world that sometimes feels a bit bleak.

In the news we discuss a remarkable series of articles by an age journo, Marta Pascual Juanola, who spent a month in Ecuador exploring the human and environmental damage being done by Hanrine, an Australian mining company that is owned by Gina Rinehart. We also look at why more and more Liberal party donors - including big capitalists and the Australia-Israel Chamber of Commerce - are flipping to one nation, Hegseth’s desire to broadcast an execution and what that says about AUKUS and the US alliance, and how big tech companies like Amazon are buying their way into our parliament. Finally, we look at the planned eviction of over 100 Indigenous people from a high-needs residential housing and health facility in the NT.

This is a podcast by members of the Socialist Party in Naarm (Melbourne). We hope to bring a radical perspective to a podcast landscape dominated by insipid liberalism (looking at you, The Daily) or Labor apologism (@friendlyjordies). The pod will come out weekly, and aims to breakdown news and current eventTs from a socialist point of view. While a lot of what’s going on in the world is fairly bleak, The Party Line will try and highlight voices of resistance and struggle.

We need your help to build a fighting socialist movement that can take on both the far right and its centrist enablers.

(The views and opinions expressed in our show are ours and ours alone, and do not reflect on the Socialist Party or Victorian Socialists.) This pod was produced on stolen land and we stand in solidarity with our Indigenous comrades in their ongoing fight against racism and capitalism. Hosted on Acast.
