Trump Brags About WH Renovations, Scott Jennings Applies for Job With Trump, Iran Update (8/20/26)
The Mark Thompson ShowShow Notes
America doesn't have an Iran deal and gas prices are skyrocketing, but don't worry, at least we have a fancy new driveway and helicopter pad at the White House. President Construction Project is back at it with another way to spend money. Trump called reporters to the South Lawn for an impromptu tour of his new driveway replacement and a look at the progress on his new helipad. Trump also says the driveway is getting an upgrade with California-mined white granite that he says is more fitting for the White House. Standing near the carved granite helipad with the presidential seal, Trump presented the construction as a central part of his legacy. Speaking of goings on at the White House, we are learning more about the odd relationship between Trump and his aide Natalie Harp. Reports indicate that she once rode in the trunk when there weren't enough seats in Trump's vehicle so they wouldn't be separated...and that for more than a year, she refused to get a security clearance.

While Donald Trump is calling Benjamin Netanyahu a “Great Warrior Prime Minister” and endorsing his reelection, JD Vance is taking a step back. During an interview with Mark Halperin aboard Air Force Two, Vance said he is focusing strictly on American candidates for the midterms and is "not getting involved in Israeli elections." Vance's refusal to weigh in on the Israeli election is drawing attention because of his previous actions. Earlier this year, he traveled to Budapest, Hungary, specifically to support Victor Orbán, another leader endorsed by Trump, prior to Orbán's election loss. This public disagreement comes just days before the Israeli election and just after U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth made an unannounced trip to Israel, where he met with Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz. We will ask Pulitzer Prize winning author and investigative journalist David Cay Johnston for his thoughts. He is an acclaimed historian, civil rights advocate, and author. He is also an expert in U.S. elections and election forecasting.
