A Conversation with Samantha Sloyan

Flanagan's Wake | A Mike Flanagan Podcast

Show Notes

Hey all! We're so excited to share this chat we had with the incredible Samantha Sloyan last week. You love to hate her in Midnight Mass, The Midnight Club, and Usher, but in real life, Sam is so incredibly lovely and thoughtful. We had an absolute blast talking with her. We chatted about Sam's experiences on the stage vs in front of the camera, how she got so good at reciting bible verses, and why she enjoys playing jerks. Thanks so much to Samantha Sloyan for her time and to Mike Flanagan for helping set it up! We'll be back tomorrow with Episode 4 of The Fall of the House of Usher!

This week on the show, we chat about the incredible episode 2 of Mike Flanagan's Carrie: "Foreign Language." We talk about our wild theories about the newly introduced Emaline, and our continued love for Summer H. Howell's performance. Matt weirdly also thinks Chris hasn't done anything wrong. Discussion Question: What is your favorite book quote? Why? Next week, Carrie continues with episode 3: "Social Studies" This show will be posting our podcast to YouTube in video format, so subscribe if you want to see our beautiful faces: https://www.youtube.com/@DoofMedia

Surprise! We decided to release our first episode covering Carrie a little early this week. The editing was all done, and we said screw it, let's go! This week we begin our time with Mike Flanagan's Carrie, covering the first episode, "First Period." We chat about how much we're enjoying Mike's changes to some of our key characters, the incredible performances, and even make some (probably wrong) predictions on where the series is going. Discussion Question: What is your favorite first day of school depicted in stories? Next week, Carrie continues with episode 2: "Foreign Language" This show will be posting our podcast to YouTube in video format, so subscribe if you want to see our beautiful faces: https://www.youtube.com/@DoofMedia

This week on the show, we take a look at the 2013 Adaptation of Carrie. It's.... well... it's kind of an adaptation of the book, but also kind of an adaptation of De Palma's movie...but also kind of a mess? Next week, Mike Flanagan's Carrie begins! We're taking a look at episode 1: "First Period" This show will be posting our podcast to YouTube in video format, so subscribe if you want to see our beautiful faces: https://www.youtube.com/@DoofMedia

This week on the show, we are taking a look at Brian De Palma's classic adaptation of Carrie. It's a weird, wonderful movie that only De Palma could make. It also made it clear to us that there was still so much more story to tell here. If possible, we're even more excited about Mike's adaptation. Discussion Question: What is a better TV release model? Releasing all episodes at once (binge) or week to week. Next week, we take a look at the 2013 Carrie adaptation. It's.... a movie This show will be posting our podcast to YouTube in video format, so subscribe if you want to see our beautiful faces: https://www.youtube.com/@DoofMedia
