Suspense presents “Death on Highway 99,” originally broadcast on CBS on October 4, 1945. Often listed as episode 161, this archival recording is identified in the source collection as episode 4. The drama stars George Murphy as Morton Blake and Cathy Lewis as Pauline Blake, and was written by Larry Marcus and Robert Light.
Writing from jail about a long-unspoken high-school love, Morton recalls the unhappy marriage that led him and Pauline onto Highway 99. A bitter argument, a roadside accident, and an increasingly intense police inquiry leave the couple facing a frightening moral dilemma.
Suspense presents the original broadcast with a newly produced contextual introduction, a short closing announcement, and gently cleaned/mastered audio for a more consistent listening experience.
