"So I was strictly forbidden from having boyfriends growing up, which is why I decided to sneak one in." Lizzy Hoo reminisces on her teen years with screen writer, actor and former high school babe, Urvi Majumdar. Urvi takes us back to the stresses of the final year of high school, the madness of teen hormones and the time she elaborately planned to sneak her forbidden boyfriend into her childhood home. More from The Lizzy Hoo Show
Lizzy is joined by Edinburgh Fringe Best Show winner Sam Nicoresti and local comedian Nat Harris. They compare UK and Australian audiences, talk about Nat's melodramatic alter ego Pussy Willow, and make the case for a trip to a dingo sanctuary before getting into their "shituations." Sam recalls the time she accidentally joined a cult after Googling "religion near me" for a free lunch and ending up with her third eye open. Nat tells the story of a midnight airport pickup that took a turn when her car broke down, and a call that changed the night.
Lizzy is joined by The Movie Man himself, Alexei Toliopoulos for a chat about the four loves of his life: Film, Food, Friends and Family. Alexei also shares his experience as a judge on the beloved ABC show Race Around The World where he critiques short films and shares what makes a great film. Then, Alexei jumps into his âShituationâ and confesses to stealing thousands of dollars worth of vouchers from his local cinema which escalated into a New Year's Eve heist and a very tragic email.
Lizzy is joined by fellow Australian comedian Anisa Nandaula as well as British comedian Phil Wang. Lizzy and Anisa give Phil a crash course in Australian culture, which states are the friendliest and which are the most racist before jumping into their âshituationsâ. Anisa recalls the time she accidentally fell into a money laundering scheme and Phil tells a story about a painfully awkward interaction when someone mistook Phil for another Asian comedian and watched their face drop when they realised the critical error they had made.
Lizzy sits down with Emma Edwards AKA The Broke Generation for a deep dive into the psychology of money, why we spend the way we do and the emotional weight tied to feeling "good enough." This chat ties into Emmaâs "shituation": She was told after interviewing for a job, that they liked her but had concerns about whether she looked "five star" enough. Ouch.
Lizzy is joined by comedians Jenny Tian (fresh off her move from London to New York) and former SNL writer Sam Jay, for two chaotic "shituations." Jenny reveals she's a serial bad Airbnb picker, from unknowingly staying in a London sex-party venue to a sketchy New York rental now officially ranked in Airbnb's bottom 10%. Sam Jay recounts being in a pharmacy when an armed robbery unfolded around her, which ended with her calling 911 to report, not the armed robbers, but herself.
