In the summer of 1997, thirteen-year-old Maryann Measles was spending time with an older crowd in New Milford, Connecticut. Her mother, Cyndi, didn’t like it, and she especially didn’t like the attention Keith Foster was giving her daughter.
He called Maryann pretty. He gave her a rose. But Foster wasn’t a boy from school. Cyndi had already warned him to stay away. But the danger went beyond one man. Around Maryann was a circle of people she knew, people who would have opportunities to make a different choice.
When Maryann spoke up, they had something to lose.
She told the truth. They decided to silence her.
