FIRST CALL | Alex Golesh ADMITS Auburn's Offense Has a Problem! Ole Miss Could EXPOSE It Again!
The Auburn Daily NetworkShow Notes
Auburn football faces another major SEC road test against Ole Miss, and Alex Golesh has four critical problems to solve after the Tigers' 38-17 loss to LSU. Can Byrum Brown and Auburn's offense recover before facing Trinidad Chambliss and the Rebels in Oxford?
On today's Auburn Daily First Call, we break down the biggest offensive and defensive concerns heading into Saturday's matchup.
Auburn managed just 67 rushing yards against LSU, including yardage lost on sacks. Byrum Brown finished with only 21 rushing yards, while Jeremiah Cobb and Omar Mabson struggled to find opportunities behind an offensive line that allowed seven sacks.
The Tigers also punted seven times, had seven offensive possessions lasting four plays or fewer, and faced eight third downs requiring more than 12 yards.
Alex Golesh and his staff know Auburn must establish offensive rhythm, protect Brown and create more opportunities for their playmakers.
Could more short passes to tight ends and running backs help Auburn find its offensive identity?
Defensively, Auburn surrendered 552 total yards against LSU, including 387 passing yards from Sam Leavitt. Now DJ Durkin's defense must prepare for another dangerous quarterback in Trinidad Chambliss.
Ole Miss is also dealing with a significant injury concern, with running back Kewan Lacy expected to miss the Auburn matchup because of a shoulder injury.
Durkin believes Ole Miss can maintain its offensive system without Lacy, but will the Rebels lose some of their explosiveness?
We examine Auburn's struggling pass rush, problems containing mobile quarterbacks, defensive secondary concerns and the importance of stopping Ole Miss on early downs.
Auburn already proved it can win a difficult SEC road game by defeating Georgia in Athens.
Can the Tigers do it again in Oxford?
