Italy Premier Applies for Voice Trademark Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni has applied to trademark her voice with the
European Union intellectual property office in a bid to bolster protections
against AI-generated deepfakes.
The filing comes as concerns grow over AI tools that can mimic voices and
images.
Meloni has repeatedly warned about the dangers of deepfakes after fake images
of her circulated (流傳) online.
The application remains under review and would not automatically block
AI-generated imitations, but could strengthen legal protections.
The filing follows a separate legal battle launched by Meloni in 2024 against
a man accused of creating and posting deepfake pornographic images using her
likeness.
The case remains pending before an Italian court.
