Professor Dave Explains

Braindead Flat Earthers Have to Give Me $200,000!

Professor Dave Explains

Summary

A recent discussion highlights the ongoing debate surrounding flat Earth theories, sparked by a challenge from a self-proclaimed "flat Earth millionaire" who offers $100,000 to anyone who can prove the Earth is round. The challenge, which includes three main parts, aims to demonstrate various scientific principles, including gravity and the curvature of the Earth.

The conversation critiques the misconceptions held by flat Earthers, particularly their misunderstanding of gravity and the scientific method. It emphasizes that gravity is not determined by the shape of an object but rather its mass, and that water conforms to the Earth's curvature due to gravitational forces. The discussion also addresses the flawed logic behind the flat Earth perspective, particularly regarding the nature of atmospheric pressure and the second law of thermodynamics.

Ultimately, the speaker humorously dismantles the challenges posed by flat Earthers, providing scientific explanations and examples that illustrate the Earth's curvature and the principles of gravity. The conversation serves as both a critique of flat Earth beliefs and an affirmation of established scientific understanding.

It's not just animals that are made of cells, it's plants too! Plant cells are very similar to animal cells, but they have some stuff that animal cells don't, like chloroplasts, that allow for photosynthesis. We just finished looking at some catalytic hydrogenation reactions, so let's look at another extremely important application of hydrogen gas. Ammonia is a critically important compound for many reasons, particularly fertilizer production to maintain global agricultural needs. We can synthesize ammonia from hydrogen and nitrogen gas, and we have been doing this using the Haber-Bosch process for quite some time. But the details of this process are much trickier than one might initially think. We have now completed our study of every single animal phylum but one: Chordata. This is the one that contains humans, as well as the most common animals we interact with every day, like our pets. There are about 81,600 species of chordates, with tremendous diversity among them, from teeny tiny little frogs all the way up to gigantic blue whales. What are the five characteristics that all chordates have in common? And since we have just one phylum left to go, we will switch to a cladogram for the chordates specifically, so what does that look like? There is so much to discuss!Script by Ryan HelcoskiWatch the whole Zoology playlist: http://bit.ly/ProfDaveZooGeneral Chemistry Tutorials: http://bit.ly/ProfDaveGenChemOrganic Chemistry Tutorials: http://bit.ly/ProfDaveOrgChemBiochemistry Tutorials: http://bit.ly/ProfDaveBiochemBiology Tutorials: http://bit.ly/ProfDaveBioAnatomy & Physiology Tutorials: http://bit.ly/ProfDaveAnatPhysMicrobiology Tutorials: http://bit.ly/ProfDaveMicrobioBotany Tutorials: http://bit.ly/ProfDaveBotanyEMAIL► [email protected]► http://patreon.com/ProfessorDaveExplainsCheck out "Is This Wi-Fi Organic?", my book on disarming pseudoscience!Amazon: https://amzn.to/2HtNpVHBookshop: https://bit.ly/39cKADMBarnes and Noble: https://bit.ly/3pUjmrn Book Depository: http://bit.ly/3aOVDlT Learn more about your ad choices.
