Wednesday 16 September 2026 Morning Prayer for Wednesday in Ordinary Time
Daily Prayer: Common Worship Morning and Evening PrayerSummary
The morning prayer service focuses on the commemoration of Ninian, a 4th-century Bishop of Galloway and missionary. The service opens with a call to worship, emphasizing the glory of God and the majesty of creation. It includes reflections on the human condition, highlighting the divine care for humanity and the call to seek goodness and peace.
The readings feature a passage from the first book of Kings, detailing the visit of the Queen of Sheba to King Solomon. She is impressed by his wisdom and wealth, affirming the truth of the reports she had heard. The narrative illustrates Solomon's unparalleled riches and the admiration he garners from leaders across the earth.
Another reading from the Acts of the Apostles recounts Paul and Silas's mission in Thessalonica, where they face opposition from jealous Jews. Despite the turmoil, they manage to spread their message, leading to the conversion of many, including prominent Greeks. The account highlights the challenges faced by early Christians and the resilience of their faith as they continue to preach in new locations.
