Summary
Jesus continues his ministry in Jerusalem, performing significant miracles that spark both belief and controversy among the Jews. He heals a blind man, prompting a debate with the Pharisees regarding the Sabbath and the nature of sin. The healed man boldly defends Jesus, declaring him a prophet despite opposition, leading to his expulsion from the synagogue. Later, Jesus reveals himself to the man, who acknowledges his faith and worships him.
In Bethany, Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead, a miracle that draws many to believe in him while also intensifying the plot against his life by the religious leaders. They fear that his growing influence will lead to Roman intervention. As the Passover approaches, Jesus is honored at a dinner in Bethany, where Mary anoints him with expensive perfume, prompting criticism from Judas Iscariot. Jesus defends her act as preparation for his burial.
As Jesus enters Jerusalem, he is met with adoration from the crowd, who proclaim him as king. He speaks of his impending death and the necessity of sacrifice for eternal life, emphasizing the importance of belief in him. Despite witnessing his miracles, many still refuse to believe, fulfilling prophetic scripture. The episode concludes with a reflection on the character of Mary of Bethany, highlighting her devotion and the call for believers to offer themselves as acts of worship.
