Girl Interrupted! Do you remember what you were like at 19? Hey betches! Today's episode goes back in time to who we were before everything changed at 19, both of us experiencing life-altering relationships at that age and encountering messaging that's taken years to unpack. We dive into what happened, how we were impacted, and what we've learned. If you know what it's like to be 40 going on 19, you'll get it! We also pop into pop culture with a Golden Bachelor versus Purity Culture update and the passing of Matthew Perry. And the clouds of brain fog and confusion part for a peek at the Menopause Minute too. It's a giant fruit inspection of an episode and we hope you enjoy it. Do us a favor? What do you when your church says abuse and mistreatment is okay? And that it's not only ok, but it's God's design. And what if you've identified abuse in your relationship but now notice you've had the same experience in your church and maybe even what you've been taught about God? Is any faith community safe for women? Today's episode explores church-sanctioned domestic abuse and intimate partner violence. We deconstruct that old saying, "Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater and find the shades of gray. April is Sexual Assault Awareness month so we thought it was only fitting that we talked about pastors who make "jokes" about sex and how women should respond to men as a wifely obligation. If this sounds familiar to what's been going around on social media with mega church pastor Josh Howerton, you're correct! The Wise Jezebels break down how harmful that messaging is (and yes, we look at it in context at his followers request which, spoiler alert: makes it worse!) and how it creates dynamics in a relationship that are often difficult to come back from. We also check in on some pop culture topics and discuss how to address topics surrounding puberty after having grown up in purity culture! Stay fresh betches!
Sometimes, we just don't have it all together, and that's what was up for the Wise Jezebels in today's episode! Laugh along with Tia the space cadet and messy-girl Laura as they talk about their relief in not needing to be perfect and normalizing having off moments…or weeks. We also talk about the "God Bless the USA" Bible, the "Little Pink Pill" and Laura's experience of having a hot flash while wearing (vegan) leather pants. Stay fresh, betches! You're asking and we have answers! It's time for the March edition of the Non-Consensual, Consensual Advice! We are talking about everything from honoring your father and mother to being diagnosed with a mental health disorder to feeling ostracized for not being religious. And we're also tackling some of the lighter stuff like our obsession with popcorn, favorite chick flicks and and the pranks we used to pull on people!
