The Cryptkeeper's Choice is back. These are the five original horror stories you couldn't stop listening to since spring: a predator at the door, a town gone dark, something in a cave that hears your fear, a good boy who came back, and a ghost who never noticed she died. Lock the doors and keep the lights low.
An Uber driver picks up the wrong passenger at 3 a.m., and by the time he realizes it, the rideshare app won't let him cancel the trip.
You take one wrong exit on a rainy night and find a motel with its VACANCY sign lit and its doors all painted the same green. The clerk knows how many of you there are before you say a word. Every room looks the same, down to the stains on thecarpet, and every morning you leave, you end up right back at the front desk. "Vacancy" is an original liminal horror story about a family road trip that goes wrong, a haunted motel that keeps its guests, and the price nobody asks about until it's too late. My grandmother died in February and left me forty acres of Arkansas hill ground, a farmhouse built in 1896, and a family cemetery swallowed by greenbrier. There were seventeen graves inside the iron fence. There was one outside it. A rough fieldstone under the white oak read only "E.M. 1902," and beneath that a verse from Job: He that goeth down to the grave shall come up no more.It was ringed by rusted iron stakes that the frost had pushed halfway out of the ground. Every spring of her life, Grandma walked down there with a sledgehammer and drove those irons back in. She never told me why. I pulled them out. Now the graves are sinking, oldest first. Something knocks beneath the floor at night, feeling its way along the foundation of the house it built. My family buriedElias Mercer face down for a reason, and he's been patient for 124 years. A Southern Gothic folk horror story inspired by the Nachzehrer, the German revenant that feeds on its own family. Story by Carman Carrion
