Show Notes

Andrea Allan enters the archives on April 16, 2014 at The Village Underground in New York. We sort through photos from The Creek, my studio in Brooklyn, a Keith and the Girl podcast marathon. But maybe we're never gonna top this one photo from 2016 at The Village Underground. And that's... ok. I also go OFF on a tangent about how the algorithm tricked people into thinking I moved outta the city during the panini, but actually, I was here and working on the archives... the very admin drudgery that would make this podcast possible. But I'm not hurt or annoyed by the misunderstanding anymore, as you can see by my tangent.

Henry Zebrowski enters the archives with Murderfist at Whiplash at UCB Theater on April 19, 2010. Soon, he and his sketch group, Murderfist, team up with a Texan, Marcus Parks, and start recording podcasts. While industry tells him nothing will ever come from the podcast thing, he's also out performing on character showcases and stand up shows. You may already know the rest of Henry's story. Maybe you were a fan his Adult Swim show Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell. Maybe you love him on Last Podcast on the Left. Images from those projects do appear directly or tangentially in the archives, but we didn't get to them in this episode. We got caught up in the sheer... shock? Of seeing these early images. This does mean we get to do another episode. Thank god.

Matteo Lane enters the archives at The Creek and The Cave's Thanksgiving celebration on November 22, 2012. Over the next few years, he is on every major show in rapid succession. Our interview covers his time living in an attic while hitting the open mics with fellow comedian Evan Wiliams all the way through his audition at The Cellar. (It went well!) Now, Matteo is successfully touring everywhere. You can see his special on Hulu , get some much needed advice from Matteo and his fellow comedians on his Youtube, and see him in person whenever you can!

New Yorker cartoonist and Late Show writer Asher Perlman enters the archives at The Bell House in December of 2019. He's back at The Bell House a month later and then... I don't see him again until June of 2024. Asher explains this gap in the archives, writing for Colbert, his pandemic project of becoming a cartoonist, learning a double-pump dunk, and much more in our episode. Asher's on Substack. He has a podcast too!! (edited)

Wyatt Cenac enters the archives in 2008 at Comix shortly after moving to NYC for The Daily Show. He shows up in photos at Whiplash, Bowery Electric, and Hannibal's Comedy in a Garage at Matchless, a precursor to the much loved Knitting Factory show. While we didn't get to Wyatt's show, Night Train, in this ep, you can see the ones taped for Seeso here. We'll get to that era in the next episode. You can also celebrate Night Train at the upcoming Hot Butter Train show at The Bell House. It's a kick-off for Marianne Ways' Kickstarter!
